Smith & Sons originated from the consistent

enquires that G.J. Gardner Homes received in

regards to carrying out remodels. In an industry

that lacked professionalism and complete customer

service, the directors of G.J. Gardner Homes saw

the opportunity to create a remodeling company

that could deliver those qualities and more to home

and commercial remodelers.

2008 saw the conception of Smith & Sons, with

directors Corey Passey, Darren Wallis and Greg

Gardner at the helm. The first Smith & Sons office

opened in March of that year, and within 7 years,

there were 90 franchisees operating.

The Smith & Sons teams quickly became well known

for their prominent Design Centre’s, distinctive

vehicles and most importantly outstanding

customer service. Within weeks of opening,

offices were inundated with enquiry in what many

considered a global recession, and each month more

offices were added to Smith & Sons.

With a company culture of excellence, team spirit,

hard work and enjoying life, Smith & Sons has raced to

the front of the remodeling industry, and has already

forged successful and long lasting business and client

relationships. The next few years look to be a great

ride for all involved with the Smith & Sons team.

Completed carpentry apprenticeship in 1997

and moved to New Zealand in 1998 after buy-

ing a G.J. Gardner Homes Franchise. At the

age of 21 he started the franchise from scratch

in a foreign town and country and 9 years later

had built a successful business and built over

350 new homes.

Corey was able to go from an unknown builder

to a house hold name and one of the biggest

builders in his franchise area, with the help of

proven systems and a strong brand.

Greg and Darren hand-picked Corey to over-

see the growth of Smith & Sons due to the

leadership, sales and marketing skills he had

developed which were imperative to growing

and maintaining the Smith & Sons Renovations

& Extensions organization. Corey continues to

be actively involved in the day to day running

of the business, providing direction and strate-

gy, and dealing with Master Franchisees, help-

ing them to grow their respective businesses.

Studied and completed a Bachelor of

Commerce at the University of Queensland

majoring in accounting, finance and

computing. Darren is a Certified Practicing

Accountant, and Fellow of the Australian

Institute of Company Directors. In 2001

Darren was awarded the prestigious Young

Accountant of the Year Award.

Darren has worked with G.J. Gardner Homes

as an accountant since March 1994. He was

involved in the daily running of the business

concerning financial matters, including

working with the company’s own independent

accountant in the preparation of financial

statements, and other managerial tasks.

Darren became a director and partner of the

Franchisor company in January 1996. In 2002

Darren was appointed as the Franchisor’s

managing director.

Darren now works with Smith & Sons in the

role of strategic development.

BROOK SWIENTISKY

After completing a degrees in Architectural Engineering Technology from Penn State and Bachelors of Science in Architecture from New York Institute of Technology Brook worked as a PM for a commercial general contractor Manhattan.

Brook then worked as Vice President Lennar Homes Colorado, one of the nation’s largest home builders. Responsibilities included, Construction Oversight and Management of Master Planned Communities, Purchasing, Sales, Marketing, & Sales Management, Land Negotiations & Development, Golf Course & Facility Construction, and Architectural & Structural Design.

Brook left corporate life to develop a privately owned high end residential remodeling and custom re-development firm. After being introduced to Greg Gardner & Darren Wallis, Brook decided to join forces with G.J. Gardner Homes. Combining Brook’s years of experience in construction, real estate, and financing, knowledge of local practices, along with the proven franchise management system, it was a natural extension to head up Smith & Son’s Remodeling Experts in the United States. .

COREY PASSEY

moved from Cardwell in Northern Queensland

down to the Sunshine Coast where he founded

G.J Gardner Homes.

Greg founded G.J. Gardner Homes in 1983,

and grew that company into six managed

offices around South East QLD before

franchising operations in 1994 to expand on a

much greater scale.

With only a very small team at Corporate

Office, G.J Gardner homes grew quickly across

Australia, and expanded in New Zealand

where they became NZ’s number on new

home builder in a matter of a few years. G.J

Gardner Homes then expanded in to the U.S

and Greg moved there to assist in it’s growth.

As an integral part of the conception of Smith

& Sons, Greg still meets with the directors on a

quarterly basis to continually grow the brand.

Completed an automotive apprenticeship

in 1991, then worked for various companies

in that industry. After further study in

training and development, including a

Certificate IV in Workplace Training and

Assessment, he became Service Manager of

a new car dealership for over three years.

He then moved into sales and advertising

in the same company. After gaining

knowledge in sales and marketing,

including publishing his own magazine, he

commenced work for G.J. Gardner Homes

to oversee their marketing operations, and

other managerial duties, and commenced

working with Smith & Sons at the

company’s inception. His main role was to

oversee the marketing, website, internal

and external communications, manuals and

general administration.

Leigh became a director of Smith & Sons

in January 2010. Leigh also retains a daily

active role in the business and liaises with

Franchisees and Master Franchisees in a

variety of capacities.
