After much build-up and anticipation, Master Baker
Holiday Club 2013 is finally here! Monday saw the first
very early morning for many leaders as they woke at 05:00 to prepare for a big day! Not
even three hours later we saw hoards (yes, hoards) of
children and parents queuing for registration. The team worked tirelessly making sure
not one child entered unaccounted for – more than
400 children signed up on the first day – and we’re trusting
for even more kids as the week
goes on.
Each child was greeted by an excited leader – part of a fun welcoming team – and taken

to their age group. While that was happening, MC Shortbread
(Kurt) and Crazy Lady Gingerbread (Taryn) were
entertaining kids inside with games and songs like “Egg, Chicken, Eagle” and “Baby
Shark” until the official opening session which was packed with
war cries from both the Muffin Makers and the Biscuit Bakers, expectant prayers, and crazy
aerobics to warm up for the day. The kids were introduced
to the drama characters for the week and to top it off the kids
learned a song all about
obeying their parents.
Children got to spend some time in their small groups getting to know each other,
hearing a bible story and learning a memory verse. Snacks then filled grumbling
tummies before crafts and sports. The day ended with a
very loud closing session where kids recapped what
happened throughout the day, sang the day’s theme song, got introduced to key leaders
for the week – crazy lady, praying cooks, postman John,
and missionary man – and the two teams competed for the most points.
What a day of crazy activities,
learning God’s truth, making
new friends and having a blast all round! This week is going to
be incredible – we’re trusting God for lasting Kingdom
impact and for the gospel to spread into the community. (Pictures on the next pages)
Holiday Club is here
“There is nothing like the local church when it’s working right,” says Bill Hybels. Truth is, every year I look forward to this time. There is nothing like seeing a hundred plus teenagers commit themselves to serve a community in such a way so children can experience the presence of God through songs, play and passionate leaders. For many of the leaders this year, Holiday Clubs from the past have become a beacon, a way point in their personal lives. It points them back to a time when they, through the service of other leaders, experienced the joy of knowing God’s presence in a special way. Now they’re pointing the way. Last night I saw a shy young man who had been through several Holiday Clubs, worship God in abandonment – hands lifted high, singing with all of his heart, showing all that he really meant business with his Maker. Today I saw him serve and serve and serve… there is nothing like the local church when it’s working right. To all who have given and served to bring us to this point, thanks for all that you have done for the cause of Christ. You add to the beauty and wonder that comes when the local church is working right. I am proud to serve Christ in this space. God is doing great things among us.
