Dear Colleague:
Thank you for your generous support of the Society of Toxicology SOT Endowment Fund. It is through continued donations that the Endowment Fund is able to support many important programs that contribute to the shared vision of the Endowment Fund “Building for the Future of Toxicology.”
Since its inception in 2006, contributors to the SOT Endowment Fund have:
• Sponsored more than 140 Student Travel Awards to the SOT Annual Meeting.
• Recognized colleagues who have made enormous contributions to improving human health and the environment.
• Created funds that acknowledge the excellence of students in toxicology and related areas of research.
• Strengthened global participation by providing financial support to scientists from developing countries aspiring to attend the SOT Annual Meeting.
Since the SOT Endowment Fund was established eight years ago, the Fund has grown to a value of approximately $2.3 million, with contributions from 600 individuals and 32 institutions. The SOT Endowment Fund incorporates 35 Named Funds and three Society Funds that support the Society’s long-term goals. The Celebrating Women in Toxicology Award Endowment Fund is one of the newest Named Funds to join the SOT Endowment Fund family. This fund was inspired by the benevolence of Ms. Anne Wolven Garrett, one of the early leaders in the Society of Toxicology. As with all other established funds, donations to this new fund will be matched dollar for dollar by the Society until June 30, 2016, or until $400,000 in matching funds has been allocated.
The front cover of this Annual Report showcases the recipients of the numerous SOT Endowment Fund awards. This is a diverse group of individuals representing early career to long-standing distinguished scientists. The SOT Endowment Fund website offers a brief synopsis of each award recipient’s background and research interest. Additionally, the website provides information about the many ways to make contributions to the SOT Endowment Fund such as estate planned giving, non-cash gift options, and more.
A great deal has been accomplished through the SOT Endowment Fund and we are hopeful that more can be done. Our aim is to increase the number of travel awards to talented young scientists and to provide additional funding for global scientists to travel to the SOT Annual Meeting. I hope that you will consider making a donation this coming year, which will allow the SOT Endowment Fund to have even greater impact now and into the future.
Sincerely,
