  • About Sirens of Gotham

Performing right in the heart of Manhattan, Sirens of Gotham is a fresh take on women's a cappella music. These ladies perform various genres ranging from classic standards and music theatre to

contemporary pop. The Sirens have been established since November of 2011 and are proud to be members of the Sweet Adelines International Organization. Under the direction of Sarah Clay, the chorus was recently awarded Second Place in the 2013 Region 15 Sweet Adelines International Division A Chorus Contest. Sirens harmonize weekly to prepare for performances throughout New

York City. Interested in singing with Sirens? Join us for Prospective Night on Thursday, January 16th. For details, go to www.sirensofgotham.org/join.

    About Voices of Gotham

Voices of Gotham is a competitive and performing chorus specializing in the rich musical tradition of barbershop harmony. Our membership is comprised of current and former college a cappella singers, professional actors and musicians, and men who simply enjoy raising their voices in song. Founded in 2008, VoG regularly performs in the New York City community and beyond, enjoying performances in venues including Madison Square Garden, Symphony Space, and Rockefeller Center. In 2012 we traveled to Portland, Oregon where we competed in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Chorus Competition. After getting a taste of the competition the prior two years as mic testers, we were excited to represent our brand of harmony to the largest barbershop audience in the world as full competitors! In 2013 our competition travel took us to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in July where

we finished in 8th place in the world and were also the Most Improved Chorus among year over year competitors. On October 5th in Ocean City, Maryland, we became the Mid-Atlantic District Chorus Champions for the second time in three years. In July 2014, we will compete in Las Vegas for the

International Chorus championship. Above all, VoG’s members sing for the absolute joy of it; members can be found before and after rehearsal singing in informal quartets, reveling in the tightly

locked and ringing chords one can only find in Barbershop harmony. Voices of Gotham is a proud member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a 30,000 member organization dedicated to the

preservation and promotion of the art of barbershop, with the mission to bringing men together in harmony and enriching lives through singing.

    Keep the Whole World Singing

The Voices and Sirens of Gotham both are child organizations under the Gotham Collaborative, a not-for-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) corporation. Box office sales cover only a portion of our year-round artistic, technical and operating expenses. We depend on contributions from audience members like you to help us meet the challenge of preparing and performing this ambitious music. By making your tax-deductible contribution, you can lower your tax bill and simultaneously help us with our mission to “keep the whole world singing” by developing new programs in a cappella singing, music education and youth outreach. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to one or both organizations at one of the following levels:

    GUARANTOR $3,000 and above BENEFACTOR $1,500 and above DIRECTOR’S CIRCLE $400 – $1,499 SUPPORTER $100 – $399 FRIEND $5 – $99

  • Welcome to Gotham Follies!

2013 has been an incredible journey of a year for Sirens of Gotham. On February 13th, a little over a year after our first rehearsal, we chartered with Sweet Adelines International; joining the ranks of the premiere educational singing organization for women in nearly record breaking time. Two months later on April 13th, we competed in our first regional competition and won second place medals in our division – only two points away from first! And our very own Ms. Sarah Clay received the Novice Director Award! This summer, guided by our wonderful director and assistant director with the aid of our dedicated music team, we all took part in the first official Sirens PVI (personal vocal instruction) Program. We got to work one-on-one to learn how each of us could strengthen our own voices to bring greater clarity and joy to our over-all chorus sound. This fall we’ve been working on applying that new sound to our new music, auditioning soloists, and adding exciting visual elements to bring every song up to a scintillating performance level to share with you all today! 2014 promises to be just as exciting with May and December shows scheduled, our retreat in February, contest in April, and the SA International Convention taking place within driving distance – watch out Baltimore! Perhaps the most exciting way to kick-off the new year will be with our Prospective Night on January 16th. Both VoG and SoG will be welcoming new singers that evening, and you can find all the information about the new Sirens audition process on our website. We welcome you to come out and join us, because the only thing better than being in the audience is being onstage!

Finally, a thank you. We could not have come so far so quickly without the help of our organization, our region, our coaches and mentors, the dedication of our members, the brotherly-love and camaraderie of Voices of Gotham, and most importantly the love and support of our friends and families. Sharing the gift of song with each other each week is a treasured part of our lives and we are fit-to-burst with excitement to share this performance of Gotham Follies with you today.

In love and very sassy harmony,

    XOXO

  • Greetings from Voices of Gotham!

Thank you to the Sirens for inviting us to appear on their very first show! We are honored to be your guests. All of us in Voices of Gotham want to sincerely congratulate the Sirens for all their success to date. We are young enough ourselves to know that it is never easy starting something from scratch. 2013 has been filled with an abundance of firsts for us that I want to proudly share with you. We applied for and received financial assistance from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council as a regrantee from the NYC Department of Community Affairs. It helped us bring barbershop to a wide variety of underserved audiences this year. In April, we helped orchestrate a webcast for the Barbershop Harmony Society's 75th that allowed us to be enjoyed by an estimated 400,000 people in 35 countries on 5 continents. In addition one of our quartets, Flat Iron Four, performed on Good Morning America. We have grown to more than 80 members and competed with more than 50 men on the contest stage. In July, we earned our spot as a Top 10 Barbershop Chorus in the world, and now have a presence on YouTube that reflects our current chorus size and level of performance quality. We invite all men who enjoy singing to visit us at a Chapter meeting any Thursday evening at 7:30p.m. We currently rehearse in Metro Baptist Church, 410 W 40th Street in Hell’s Kitchen.

    Enjoy the Show!
