Why is this course unique? Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method presupposes that healthy singing is based on free and full use of the vocal mechanism in partnership with the body. It promotes self-knowledge, musical intuition and the artistic uniqueness of each person and voice. Instruction is geared toward function and anchored in the various Contemporary Commercial Music styles. Annette Masson, guest faculty and Professor of Theater from University of Michigan School of Music, Theater and Dance, will lead a morning session of movement and Dr. Norman Hogikyan, Otolaryngologist, of the University's Medical Center, will present a lecture on vocal health and science, creating a truly unique multi-disciplinary experience for participants. This expanded course is presented at a world-class medical institution for the first time and now offers 1.8 estimated CEU's for Speech Language Pathologists. Please contact Marci Rosenberg for details. See below-Pending final ASHA approval.

About Somatic Voicework ™ The LoVetri Method

Receive your Level I Somatic Voicework ™ Certification

Somatic Voicework™ is Jeannette LoVetri's body-based system of training for Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM). It has its roots in the 250-year-old traditions of classical singing, but incorporates techniques from many other disciplines including Speech Language Pathology, acting, movement, and yoga. It draws upon ideas taken from body awareness disciplines such as Alexander Technique© and Feldenkrais© and from over 40 years of teaching singing to a wide variety of vocalists at all levels. LoVetri's method represents a culmination of years of collaboration with voice scientists, speech pathologists and medical doctors and of her own diverse experience singing in classical, music theater, jazz and other styles throughout her life.

Somatic Voicework™ 2010 participants

Level I Certification is for anyone who currently desires to work with CCM vocal styles. The course will present an organized pedagogical approach based on vocal function and the principals of voice science and vocal health. It is designed to educate the eyes and ears of voice professionals about the healthy use of the voice in any CCM style. Through live and recorded examples, and through breakout sessions lead by the faculty, participants will be guided to enhance perception, sharpen aural discrimination and increase accuracy of the early identification of technical voice production problems that could subsequently lead, if left uncorrected, to vocal health issues. Further training is offered in Level II and III, currently only available at other nationally recognized universities.

“Jeanie LoVetri has created a systematic approach to assessment and training the CCM voice. SVW ™ provides the novice teacher, singer and voice expert a means to transition a crossover singer into a new style, or build upon technique of an established CCM performer. Her compassion in approaching each vocal instrument puts singers at ease and encourages them to progress through all levels of training. Jeanie’s three-level course will expand your breadth of knowledge of the CCM voice both by teaching you to trouble shoot common technical problems, and by including anatomy, physiology and acoustics of the vocal mechanism. She is one of those teachers who is able to get the best out of you even when you doubt your own skills.
