GREETINGS

Welcome to our Spring 2021 Arts & Culture Catalogue! This season is naturally the perfect time to set intentions, clear space for new growth, and plant the proverbial seeds that will sprout into a bountiful crop in the months and years to come. Join us for an intriguing array of virtual experiences offered in partnership with artists from all over the country, streamed to your home. If you have not yet participated in our virtual programming because technology is a barrier, please let us know and we will do our best to get you online with us.

The Sonoma Community Center remains in a state of caution as we are carefully planning for a variety of small, in-person, Youth Summer Camps. We are excited about fully utilizing our beautiful outdoor spaces like never before to run these camps, private lessons (including pods) and small adult groups. Please reach out to us if you are interested in booking a creative experience for you and your family, a club, or friend group. Believe me, birthday parties with clay, printmaking, or fiber projects can be a special and memorable option for all! Visit our website for pricing and booking information: sonomacommunitycenter.org

Partnering with Jack London State Historic Park this spring, we will offer socially-distanced outdoor art workshops in our beautiful nearby state park including wildflower drawing, landscape sketching, and botanical printmaking. The intimate workshops will be taught by our talented teaching artists who will lead the study and artmaking with nature and architecture as the muses.

We are embracing change in our organization and are striving to become a more equitable and inclusive CENTER through pricing tiers, scholarships and Equity in Arts initiatives, not to mention new programming. We welcome everyone, no matter their age, race, financial means, gender, religion, culture, sexual orientation, or disability, to engage in arts, education, and community-centered activities that enlighten and inspire our community.

Join us!

BEGINNING CALLIGRAPHY AND FLORAL DECORATION

Sunday, April 18, 2021 Alice Pennes$40

An art journal is a way to document time -- sharing with the pages your grief, joy, anger, and hope -- and also the mundane and beautiful aspects of life. The pages may not all be “good-looking” but they may help you sort through these days and months that seem to run together. This workshop will show you how to build a dynamic journal page and document your experience living through this unprecedented time. We will focus on layering different materials, techniques to disguise and highlight your

writing, finding unexpected beauty and as always letting go of perfection when working in your journal. We will discuss how to use your journal to make the best of small moments of time to yourself and how to use your journal in a non-linear way. We will also cover what you can do with very basic materials. Open to beginners and more experienced journalers alike. Website Link

YOU ARE WHAT YOU MAKE: DEVELOPING STYLE AND VOICE IN YOUR WORK

March 24, April 8, April 24 and May 4Chris Campbell$450

Many potters do not consider using colored clay in their work as they believe it to be too time-consuming to learn, too difficult to work with, and too expensive to use. These false ideas prevent them from using one of the most flexible and interesting ‘tools’ in the pottery skill set. Chris teaches easy methods of coloring clay and creating secondary colors. Using Chris’ techniques, it is easy to keep a supply of colored clays and slips on hand for any decorative treatments. She teaches students how to color their clay with stains, how to create secondary colors, using the Skinner Method of blending. Students will create canes and patterns, and use these patterns in work using either the pure colored clay or laminating on white clay.Website Link
