This manual includes the following

How to..

1. Open and set up Sony Vegas.

2. Import your footage from your camera to Sony Vegas.

3. Create a simple video edit.

4. Use the different effects and transitions.

5. Add text to your video.

6. Edit the audio on your footage.

7. Save/Render your final video edit.

1) Open and set up Sony Vegas.

· Go onto the computers desktop and double click on (Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD).

· Once Sony Vegas is opened be sure to save the last project that has been edited: by going to project, which is on the top left of your screen and click save as and give the project a name.

· After you have saved the last project. Click on project and create a new project.

· This will appear on your screen with these settings. If not edit the settings to these shown below. After you’ve changed all the settings go onto name and give your project a name. After you have completed this press ok.

2) Importing footage from your Computer/Camera to Sony Vegas.

After opening and setting up a new project you need to make sure that your footage is on your computer.

If it is then do the following:

· Go to Project.

· Import media.

· Find the video/photo you want to import.

· Double click on the video/photo.

· The footage is now imported onto Sony Vegas in a tab called project media.

3) Creating a simple Video Edit.

Making a simple video edit is easy. If all you want to do in a video edit is bring two different clips together… this step by step is easy to follow.

· Now that all your video footage is imported.

· You can drag and drop the video clip of your choice into the timeline at the bottom of the screen (shown below).

· To join two different videos together you have to drag one clip to the back/front of another clip.

· After you’ve saved/render the footage (shown in section 7). You will have a simple video edit with a few clips joined together.

· But if you want to make a more creative video and use effects, transitions, sound effects or text; Read part 4, 5 and 6.

4) Effects and Video Transitions.

· Transitions are used when fading from one video to another. They make the video look softer than just cutting from one clip to another.

· Video effects (Video FX) are used to give the video a different feel and quality. You can make your footage look like an old film, night vision, blurred, TV vision, deform etc. you mainly see these types of effects in Hollywood style films. It makes the footage look more expensive.

5) How to add text to your video.

· Go to Media Generations.

· Then click on tiles & texts or (legacy text), this is all on the left side of your screen.

· Once you’ve clicked onto tiles & texts you will see all these amazing effects from earthquake animated text and more.

· Choose your effect for example earthquake and drag it onto your timeline where you’re editing.

· After you have dragged and dropped the text. Click on this icon (highlighted black)

· Once you’ve clicked on the icon this box should appear below. If the box seems small make it larger so you can see all the effects you can use. In this section you can change the font, colour, size, outline and even add a shadow to the text.

· Once you’ve changed the text to your type of style you can then move your text around your editing screen by clicking on the text and dragging it around this small widescreen template. When you’ve finished just close the text box.

6) How to edit sound.

The sound waves on your video will look like this.

You can do several things to the sound on Sony Vegas.

· If you want to detach the sound from the video you need to right click on the video.

· Click on group.

· Then remove from (U).

And your sound will be separate from the video.

If you want to add different effects to the sound you need to

· Click on this small icon on the left side of your screen (it needs to be on the same line as the sound you want to edit)

· This should appear on your screen after you have clicked on the small green icon.

· Then again click on the same green icon in the right side of the Audio Track FX box. (DO NOT CLICK THE ONE WITH THE RED X)

· After you’ve click on the green icon all the sound effects should appear if not press all on the left side of the box.

· After you’ve picked an effect double click and the effect should appear on the top left of the plug in chooser box. If you’re happy with all the effects then press ok.

· After you’ve pressed ok, you can change the setting around on the Audio Track FX.

· After you’ve changed all the settings to the effect you want press the x button in the top right corner.

Now test out your sound effects by just pressing play.

If you want to record your voice

Press the following:

· Record on the section you want your sound to be recorded on.

· After you’ve clicked on the record button press Ctrl + R and your voice will now be recorded.

8) Save/Render your final video edit.

First save all your work by going to

· Project.

· Save as.

· Then find a place where you want to save your final work.

· This only saves the file as a project to Sony Vegas.

How to render your footage (meaning bringing the whole thing together as one file)

· After you’ve saved the project as a Sony Vegas file.

· Go to project.

· Make a movie.

· Then this small box should appear.

· Upload to YouTube (Film directly put on YouTube).

· Share Online (on a website).

· Burn to a DVD or Blu-ray Disc. (Watch on TV).

· Save it to my camera or portable device (saving it on your camera or on a memory card).

· Save it to my hard drive (saves on your pc).

· If you have picked save it to my hard drive, which is the best option to pick.

· This should appear on your screen.

· I’d advise you to pick windows media video v11 (WMV) (3mbps). Give your project a name and then click render. Depending on the length of the video the rendering can take minutes to hours.
