SOUTH WEST
DISTRICT SOJOURNER UMW Publication Florida Conference
Greetings to my Sisters in Christ! The New Year is yours...what will you do with it?" "You crown the year with your goodness, and your paths drip with abundance.”
Psalm 65:11 I've never been a fan of making a New Year's Resolution. To me, it's like saying, "I'm going to go on a diet," and for the first few days I really stick with it. But, in no time at all, I'm back to my old ways saying, "Oh, just one little piece of cake won't hurt"! So for me, "resolutions" just don't work. However, as United Methodist Women, I'm asking that you join me in "not" mak-ing a "resolution" but to make at least one "change/addition" to your life this year and carry it out daily! I’ve provided a list of ten suggestions below.
See you for training on the 28th! Blessings,
Shelley Davidson President
The PURPOSE of United Methodist Women
United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The Mission Team met Saturday, December 10, 2016. The event was held at the Three Fisherman's Seafood Restaurant in North Ft. Myers. This was a social gathering to celebrate not only Christmas, but our joys and sorrows of the past year! We welcomed Pamela Freeland, our newest team member along with Rev. Denise Sawyer, & Lori and Scott Perkins.
We celebrated the joy for healing of Sharon Wilson who underwent chemo treat-ments and a thyroid operation and myself who is doing well after rotator cuff sur-gery. We felt sadness over the loss of two of our team members—Stella Mur-doch on January 26th and Betty Mayberry on December 2nd. Nominations com-mittee member Joan Bowlsby was also in our prayers as she continues to mourn the loss of her husband Dick on October 8th.
Many of us have had physical health problems, financial difficulties, aging parent caretaking difficulties, and more. We also had to say goodbye to our long serving secretary and team member, Sissie Lumpkin as she retired and moved out of state. Yet we can still come together and celebrate the joy of the birth of the Lord as we know He is always with us and will never leave us! We look forward to an exciting new year and working together for the care of women, youth and children around the world who still need our help!
Blessings to All!

December 2, 2016
Betty Jo (Kauffman) Mayberry was born in Goshen, IN to J. Clair Kauffman and
Dorothy C. (Berkey) Kauffman. She was raised in a loving Christian home and
attended West Goshen Church of the Brethren. She was married to Dave Williams
and had two boys Michael and Gary Williams. In her 2nd marriage to Reginald
Mayberry she had two children Lori Ann (Mayberry) Perkins (Scott) and
Reginald C. Mayberry (Tammy).
She was avid sports fan. Loved to spend her days and evenings watching high
school sports at Charlotte High School where her two youngest and both of their
spouses attended. She helped to run the concession at CHS with her daughter for
many years. She loved CHS and she loved “her kids” as she called them. Many alumni called her a second mom.
She was a good loving Christian that believed in helping others. She was a member
of United Methodist Women where she was a local officer and held several District
offices. She was currently the Social Action Coordinator for the South West
District. She was also a community advocate and was a Rebekah of Golden Rule
Rebekah Lodge #60.
Betty was proceeded in death by her Sister Evelyn Marie-1942, Father J. Clair
Kauffman-2003, & Mother Dorothy C. Kauffman-2005. Betty is survived by her
Brother Dean Kauffman (Ingrid), Husband Reginald Mayberry, Sons Michael
Williams, Gary Williams (Allison), Daughter Lori Ann Perkins (Scott), Son
Reginald C. Mayberry (Tammy), Many Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and one
