Six years ago SAIL was awarded a grant through the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) for Juneau's only lift-equipped taxi. The original taxi has surpassed its useful life. DOT&PF approved 80% funding for a replacement vehicle. This request is for the required 20% match. SAIL currently has over 200 native elders, seniors, and people with disabilities using the taxi discount program. Tourists, visitors, and individuals not enrolled in the voucher program also regularly use the lift-equipped taxi. SAIL leases the lift-equipped vehicle at no cost to a vendor identified through a competitive bid process approved by DOT&PF. The vendor operates, insures, and maintains the vehicle and gives a 20% bulk rate voucher discount. Project Timeline: SAIL would submit a RFP within 30 days of receipt authority to acquire vendor quotes and choose a vendor 30 days later. Typically vehicle delivery takes 5 months, therefore it is anticipated delivery would occur in January 2011. Detailed Project Description and Justification:The goal of the SAIL Taxi Program is to provide on-demand, accessible, affordable transportation to the elderly andpersons with disabilities 24:7; 365 days a year.

Six years ago SAIL was awarded a grant through the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF)for Juneau's only lift-equipped taxi.
