EVENING PRAYER at Trinity - meets Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm.

THE BROWN BAG BIBLE STUDY – meets Tuesdays 12:05 – 12:45 in Trinity’s Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome whenever you can make it.

On September 14th following worship service, the TEC Adult Formation Class will begin a study titled, “ANCIENT WISDOM FOR CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIANS” LED BY THE REV. DR. JUDITH HIRSCH-FIKEJS an oblate of the Order of Julian of Norwich. The class will be based on the writings of Blessed Julian of Norwich contained in her book, "Revelations of Divine Love." The class will be held for approximately five weeks.

The version of Blessed Julian's text that Rev. Judith will be using is published in the series known as Classics of Western Spirituality and is available from Amazon. Several versions are available for download to Kindle for 99 cents.

We will be considering some updated information about her life and her spirituality; thought that influenced the theology of the church; messages from the Lord that speak to the deepest issues of human living; and insights from Scripture that are expounded upon and expanded in her writings.

NEWS AND INFO:

1ST SUNDAY FOOD PANTRY is this Sunday – please remember to bring non-perishable foods to your church. The food will be picked up and distributed to those in need. THANK YOU.

There will be a BENEFIT FOR TIM BROWN at the Crow Creek Valley Community Center in Sherwood on Saturday, September 6 at 4:30 pm. An auction will be held from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, then some great gospel music by The New Day Gospel Singers, Chris Van Allman, New Compassion, singers from the Sherwood Emmanuel Apostolic Church, and singers from the Mt. Calvary Apostolic Church in Tracy City... and anybody else that would like to join in. Tim has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time and it is in his hip and ribs. Money raised will help offset travel expense to and from the Murfreesboro VA for chemo treatments. If you would like to donate anything for the auction or help in any way, PLEASE CONTACT KATHY PACK AT 598-0570 OR 691-3603.

There will be a GENEALOGY WORKSHOP on Tuesday, September 9, at 5:00 pm at the Franklin County Library, 205 S. Porter St, downstairs in the Historical Library. This workshop promises to be a fun, learning event.

MARSHA CARNAHAN (a Certified Haden Institute Dream Coach and Spiritual Director and member of Trinity) will be leading “INTRODUCTION TO DREAMWORK: UNOPENED LETTERS FROM GOD” on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at St. Mary’s Sewanee from 10am – 1pm. Please see the flyer attached for more info.

The MULTI COUNTY CANCER SUPPORT NETWORK (MCCSN) WALKATHON is THIS Friday, September 12, 2014, at the old High School football stadium in Winchester and the ALZHEIMER ASSOCIATION’S WALK TO END ALZHEIMERS is THIS Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the South Jackson Street Civic Center in Tullahoma.

These two organizations work to support both those with the diseases and their families in our 8-county area. We would like for all STEM Church Members - and any others interested - to have the opportunity to contribute to our efforts both by joining a walking team and/or by a financial contribution.

The MCCSN WALK is a fun-filled and inspiring evening. Events begin around 6:00 pm with the Survivors Lap – all survivors are invited to walk this lap and receive a free survivor T-shirt. Other events include tent decorating contest, musical entertainment, the Candle Lighting Ceremony, food, and lots of fun. Teams are forming up but we’d like to see more folks join in the fun. Activities last until about midnight.

The ALZHEIMER’S WALK begins around 9:00 am at the South Jackson Street Civic Center grounds. There will be music, activity booths for the children, a doggy area for your 4-legged companions, the “flower

garden”, and informational booths from various local nursing facilities. The walk usually starts around 10:00, going from the Civic Center to Walgreens and back (about 2 miles), or as far as you want to walk. Activities are usually over by noon.

PLEASE CONTACT LAURA LOWNDES AT 931-691-0225 if you have any questions.

The SUMMER LECTURE SERIES, presented by Cowan Center for the Arts in partnership with the Franklin County Historical Society, will have A PRESENTATION ON DINAH SHORE on Sunday, September 28 at 4 pm at the Cowan Center for the Arts. Joy Gallagher is the guest speaker.

Points to Ponder from The Rev. Dr. Judith Hirsch-Fikejs

The Rev. Judith Hirsch-Fikjes is a member of Trinity

and she is the organist at Trinity and Christ Church Alto.

Many of you have heard me refer to my dad who was a pastor for 46 years before he passed away

in 1976. He pastored a number of hurting churches because he saw his ministry calling as a “trouble

shooter” kind of minister. You can imagine what he experienced and the many kinds of situations he

encountered. But some of the people he referred to most often were those he called “Sunday Go To

Meetin' Christians.”

Now it may be that the name is self-explanatory for most of us, but we often ignore the fact that

many of us think on our faith most during church on Sunday, and then as Father Michael commented

this past Sunday, we go about implementing our own agendas the rest of the time. In many ways most

of us are Sunday Christians and we often forget that the Lord has called us to service for God's Kingdom

24/7. How we implement that in our own individual lives is just as varied and unique as each of us. Yet

God has indeed called us to “do the work he has given us to do, to love and serve God as faithful

witnesses of Christ our Lord.” We pray this each Sunday in our post Eucharistic prayer. And perhaps

our greatest life challenge is how we live out that prayer, how we allow God to answer that prayer in our

lives. Until next time . . .
