LETTER FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTORFebruary 2010
Dear CAST Supporters:
In these difficult times where abundance is scarce, we are proud to give you a show that is abundant in laughs, love and joy. This family of folks is filled with quirky, silly and funny characters who live to share their eccentricities with all. It is a joy to work with a cast full of crazies who are willing to bravely flaunt their idiocy and share their wild hairs with you, our loyal audience. As I continue my sixth season as CAST’s Artistic Director, I continue to marvel at all the volunteers who give so much of their time, energy and talent so freely, in order to share the glory of theatre with our community. Comedy is a terrific remedy for the ills of our world. We thank you for sharing this relationship with us. We know that without your laughter, we can never complete our mission to entertain. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us and thank you for supporting live theatre in our community.
Kim DobbsArtistic Director
THIS PERFORMANCE IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF KATHY EWING
When last we met the Futrelles, Frankie was played by the gifted actress Kathy Ewing. In addition to Dearly Beloved, Kathy also performed in The Odd Couple (female version) and in The Trip to Bountiful. Recently, we lost this funny, dedicated and charismatic performer and this makes our world a sadder place. Kathy was always available to fill whatever role needed, whether it be on stage or off. We will miss her and the laughter she always gave us. It is our hope that she is looking down and giggling. We know we are looking up and missing her.

Robin Bauer (D. Dayva Davidson) is in her 4th season with CAST. She has appeared in Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Sound of Music and Annie Get your Gun. She also works with volunteers and house management. She recently appeared as Ms. Davidson in the Theater of Gadsden production of Southern Hospitality. Robin is currently organizing the Cheaha Dance Alliance dedicated to increasing opportunities for dancers in this area. She will be hosting a Community-Wide Dance Concert May 15, 2010, here at the McClellan Theater. If you are interested call Robin at 256-782-0822.
Mike Crosby (John Curtis) is originally from Anniston but now lives in Heflin with his wife Jennifer and two children, Ryan and Regan. This is Mike’s second tour of duty as John Curtis, also portraying him in the 2008 CAST production of Dearly Beloved. Mike was last seen in 2009’s Leading Ladies as the Reverend Duncan Wooley, which earned him his first Randy award for Best Featured Actor. He is a graduate of Jacksonville State University and, in his “spare” time, Mike enjoys playing tennis and coaching soccer.
Glenn Davenport (Justin) has been seen on the CAST stage for several years, most recently as Jack and the beautiful Stephanie in last season’s Leading Ladies, and as Uncle Stanley in Smoke on the Mountain. He may also be remembered as the Minstrel in Once Upon A Mattress, Ali Hakim in Oklahoma!, and Luther Billis in South Pacific. He has also appeared in several productions at JSU, including The Male Animal, Hay Fever, Towards Zero and 1984. Glenn would like to thank his loving wife Kimberly for all her support.
Denise Davis (Twink) most recently played M’lynn in CAST’s production of Steel Magnolias last May. In Southern Hospitality, she reprises the role of Twink which she played two years ago in Dearly Beloved. Denise has a BFA in Musical Theatre from Point Park College (now University) in Pittsburgh and is a veteran of many local productions. She works at JSU in the College of Graduate Studies and thanks her sons and husband for their support.

The Players continuedMichelle Deese (Frankie) is excited about her sixth season and fifteenth show with CAST! Most recently, she appeared as Annelle in Steel Magnolias. Other memorable performances include roles in Oklahoma!, Little Shop of Horrors, and Snoopy!!! Michelle also received the 2006-07 CAST President’s Award. A Pre-K Teacher at TCP, she also coaches the Wellborn Jr B Cheerleaders and teaches Tumble and Stunt classes. She and her fiance’ Craig are working on becoming “The Crazy Cat Couple” with their SIX furry babies. Michelle wishes to thank her family and friends for their continued love and support, the cast and crew for being so great to work with, and dedicates this performance to her friend and stage sister Kathy - I love you!
Tim Doyle (Raynerd Chisum) is proud to return as Raynerd in this production of Southern Hospitality. He last performed as Raynerd in Theatre Of Gadsden’s 2009 production of Southern Hospitality as well as Theatre of Gadsden’s 2008 production of Christmas Belles. Other credits include: Simon Stimson in Our Town and Reverend Hooker in Dearly Departed, Heflin Arts Council; and with CAST, The Wizard in Once Upon A Mattress; Patsy Price in Dearly Beloved; and June Cline in Second Samuel. Tim has been blessed to receive Randy Awards and a Theatre of Gadsden award for his acting. An Auburn graduate, Tim is a pharmacist at Walgreens in Anniston. Many thanks to friends and family for their love and support.
Dan Krejci (Buck Strickland) is making his stage debut. He does not count the fifth grade operetta he was in as acting—more like acting up. Dan has worked as a service station attendant (when they were really service stations), fry cook, stocker, soldier, nightclub DJ, student, and educator. Dan earned his B.A from Capital University, M.P.A. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Texas Tech University. Currently, he is an assistant professor of political science and public administration and the director of the Master of Public Administration program at Jacksonville Sate University. He lives in Jacksonville, Alabama with his two attack Dachshunds (Bach and Beethoven).
Linda Lee (Aunt Iney) has been singing and dancing since she put tap shoes on at age six. She participated in Community Theater in California for over 30 years. This is her second season with CAST. You may remember her as one of the nuns in The Sound of Music, Florence in Leading Ladies last season and in Annie Get Your Gun this season. She gives thanks to her loving family for their unbridled support. And, to CAST and everyone involved (including you) for the opportunity to experience the joy and aliveness of Community Theater.

The Players continued
Mike Stedham (Dub Dubberly) is manager of student media at Jacksonville State University and a founding member of CAST’s Board of Directors. He has directed and appeared in many of the theater’s productions, and he first appeared as Dub Dubberly in the 2008 production of Dearly Beloved. His most recent role was Pawnee Bill in the season-opener Annie Get Your Gun. He has written four murder-mystery plays and is working on a fifth, The Castaways, to be produced this spring as a fundraiser for CAST. He is a part-time news anchor for TV-24 and is a contributor to Longleaf Style magazine. He thanks his wife, Judge Brenda Stedham, and his daughters, Jenny and Kate, for their unwavering support.
Erin Mahaffey (Gina Jo) is a sophomore Drama major at JSU. She has had an interest for the theatre since the 3rd grade and in 2008 was CAST’s Best Supporting Actress Award Winner for her role in Dearly Beloved. She was most recently seen on stage in the JSU production of The Man Who Came to Dinner. She aspires to continue her career in Acting and further her career in Directing. She would like to show her love and gratitude to her Mom, Dad, and sister, Hollee. “Acting isn’t how you act, but how you React.”
Debby Mathews (Geneva Musgrave) is happy to be on stage as Geneva. As the County Extension Coordinator in Cleburne County, she recognizes several of these characters -- especially people trying to recruit industry to small towns and those working hard on small town festivals. She knows and loves them for their passion! Recent roles Debby has had with CAST include Clairee in Steel Magnolias and Ann Landers in The Lady With All the Answers. She thanks Kim Dobbs and CAST for providing opportunities to be involved in community theatre and for the excellence that CAST represents. Debby also thanks her husband, Jake, her daughters, son-in-law, and her parents for their love and support of her passion.
Lolly Payne (Rhonda Lynn) was seen most recently as Ouiser in Steel Magnolias, Lolly is happy to rejoin the Futrelle family as the long lost sister Rhonda Lynn. In our last visit with the Futrelles in Dearly Beloved, Lolly played the overbearing Geneva Musgrove. Lolly says southern comedy is her favorite because there is so much inspiration all around. “I know most of the characters in this show; heck! I am probably related to some of them.” Lolly is also active in the Heflin Arts Council as actor/director/producer and gofer. Watch for their production in the spring. Lolly would like to thank her friends and family for their help and support while she is knee deep in a show.

Her current projects include the short film Cell 13 and directing Cotton Patch Gospel at the Ashland Theatre, which she owns along with her sister Robin. In addition to her love for the arts, Lori also is a Licensed Massage Therapist at Steele Chiropractic in Lineville. She would also like to thank all her family and friends for their support and give remembrance to Kathy Ewing, a special friend and fellow actor.
Debbie Tyson (Honey Raye) is thrilled to FINALLY bring the character of Honey Raye to life for CAST. She previously played this role in Theatre of Gadsden’s productions of Christmas Belles and Southern Hospitality. This is the fourth time Debbie has taken the stage for CAST, as well as working as stage manager for Leading Ladies and Annie Get Your Gun. Her acting career started at JSU as a toddler under the direction of her grandmother Ethel Reaves, and she participated in several JSU productions as a student. Debbie teaches theatre at Oxford High School and is excited about the construction of the OHS Performing Arts Center. She sends love and kisses to her friends and family for their support.Debbie Tyson
