Main markets for Spanish furniture
European markets are the main consumers of Spanish products, with France, Portugal,
Germany, Italy and United Kingdom ranking at the top of Spain’s major furniture purchasers.
Over the first nine months of 2012, encouraging results have been registered both in some
African and Latin American emerging markets.
Among African markets, Morocco ranks now 6th on the list of Spain’s main clients, with a
+4.9% increase of imports from Spain. Better performances have been registered in
Equatorial Guinea, Angola and Algeria that have increased their purchases of Spain’s
products by +35.6%, +82.2% and +48.8% respectively.
Spain’s furniture exports have picked up also in some Latin American countries, such a as
Venezuela (+175.5%), the Dominican Republic (+39.5%) and Brazil (+116.3%), due to the
growth of the real estate and hospitality sectors in these markets.
To compensate the decrease of sales to some most EU markets, Spain’s furniture exports
have gained positions in Northern and Eastern Europe. Export to the Netherlands and
Switzerland have risen sharply by +19.3% and +5.6%. Having increased its purchases by
+37.8%, Russia confirms itself as a promising market for Spanish furnishing products, ranking
now 7th among top importers from Spain.
Spain’s furniture is also highly appreciated in the Middle East, where exports to Saudi Arabia,
that ranks 11th, have grown by +24.1%. Purchases from UAE and Qatar have increased by
+2.8% and +15.2%, respectively.
Imports
As far as the main furniture supplier countries are concerned, China, whose furniture
purchases from Spain amounted to 358.7 million Euros (-14.8%), consolidates itself as the
main origin market, concentrating almost 24% of Spain’s imports of furniture.
Four countries of the EU (Portugal, Germany, Italy and France) rank 2nd to 5th just behind
China, representing 42.4% of total imports.

COLECCIÓN ALEXANDRA is highly appreciated all over the world as one of the finest ambassadors of the luxury living. This is so true that the Spanish company is all year round engaged in major events in different countries: MAISON & OBJET, I SALONI Milan and the new event INDEX Saudi Arabia, in Jeddah, just to name a few. But the travel around the globe of the firm has taken it even farther, up to China and the promising Asian markets.
The Spanish luxury firm has recently open a new showroom in the AUSEN IDC, the Home Furnishing Design Center of Shanghai, the China’s first international design center for elite brands.
The expansion of Colección Alexandra in China will be completed in the next months with the opening of two new showrooms in Beijing and Chengdu.
Meanwhile, the Chinese edition of ELLE DECORATION, in its February issue, has published a special report on the brand and its owner, the interior designer Mª José Guinot.
In Shanghai, Maria Jose Guinot has been awarded the Golden Seat Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of interior design. Shanghai International Interior Design Festival aims to establish Golden Seat Award as the Oscar Award in the field of interior Design.
