TRANSCRIPT
What have we been up to?
• We have compiled the interviews and analysed
their outcome!
So what did we find?
Lets have a look!
And here is Our Questionnaire!General questions with regard to the interviewee’s social
position
• Give a short description of your family when you were a teenager.
• Where did you live as a teenager and with whom?
Pattern of spending spare time
• What according to you does spare time mean?
• How much spare time did you have when you were a teenager? (during the
school week and weekends)
• How did you spend this spare time?
• Do you think the activities you occupied yourself with in your spare time
were productive or helpful?
Our Questionnaire Groups and spare time
• Did you spend your spare time with teenagers of the same social/religious
background as yours?
• Was there a bifurcation of group activities depending on religion, caste,
class?
• Who or what influenced your choice of joining these groups, if there were
any?
Your opinion about the present generation’s spare time
activities
• What are your comments about the way the present generation is spending
their spare time?
• Do you think the activities you indulged in during your spare time as a
So what do our interviews tell us?
• We found that our interviewees were living in a large
family with an average of 4-6 siblings. Some lived in
joint families and the others with only their parents
and siblings.
• They spent majority of their spare time with people
from various castes and religious backgrounds, and
therefore no bifurcation based on religious
background was made.
The Analysis
• They got sufficient spare time to relax and
involve themselves in certain minor household
chores while managing homework and studies
in their spare time too.
• They also said that the activities they involved
themselves in were productive enough to keep
them busy and active.
The Analysis
• The grandparent’s overview abut spare time suggests more
indulgence in outdoor activities which involved playing traditional
sports or other forms of physical exercise.
• The parents stated that their means of spending spare time were
both indoors and outdoors.
• 9/10 interviewees said the present generations way of utilising
spare time has changed drastically and that a dramatic fall in
practice of outdoor activities and an increase in indoor activities
like gaming and social networking has resulted in a lazier
generation.

But…
• Nevertheless, 8/10 also say that the current
generation is intelligent and capable, as their
knowledge is budding with technology.
• The present generation’s negligence of outdoor
activities could be due to alternate ‘virtual’
substitutes like games. Or it could be sheer lack
of interest.

So what did we conclude?• In a nutshell, the common comment made by
all is that their generation was much more active
and outgoing, while this generation prefers air
conditioners to sunlight, computers to books
and gaming consoles over bats and rackets. But
the potential the current generation possess is
immense and if channelized correctly, their
enthusiasm and smartness are commendable
traits!
