Dear Colleagues

The combination of a low oil price environment and the energy transition (to renewables) puts the oil and gas industry in an unprecedented place where the requirement to explore, develop and produce exists within a context of reluctant albeit continued demand.

The role of engineers and geoscientists is still vital to the successful outcome of upstream projects and the challenges and excitement of the work remain. But the pressure to deliver is probably greater than ever.

The "Big Crew Change" is almost over and there are fewer "wise heads" who "have seen it all before". This means that younger and less experienced professionals are making decisions and taking responsibility. Generally this will result in greater job satisfaction but in order to ensure that the right decisions are made, consultation and knowledge sharing becomes more important than ever.

SPE EUROPEC 2018 at the 80th EAGE Conference and Exhibition provides the ideal environment to share ideas and concerns with colleagues from across the world. Collaboration and debate leads to better decisions. The wide range of topics in the technical programme should ensure all areas of interest are covered.

By submitting a paper to EUROPEC, as well as getting it published to a global community via OnePetro, you will present your work to colleagues who may offer valuable feedback and advice.

The paper proposal must be a minimum of 200 words and no more than 500 words in length and should include a description of the proposed paper, results/conclusions, and the technical categorymost applicable to your paper.3. Submit your paper proposals online at http://www.spe.org/go/18EURO-CFP.This website also offers guidelines for preparing and submitting your paper proposal on time.5. Do not include the title or author names in the body of the abstract. The title and author information will be requested separately through the submission system.6. allowed to present. The programme committee will review draft manuscripts before the final versions are submitted to SPE for publication.

Changes, Cancelations and Withdrawals SPE and the Programme Committee consider an accepted abstract as a commitment to present. If extenuating circumstances prevent the author frommaking the presentation in person, it is the author’s obligation to find an alternative presenter and notify their SPE programme lead and their session chairs (if applicable). Withdrawals must be made in writing to the SPE office as soon as possible. Underno circumstances can a submitted abstract be changed once it has been submitted. Cancelations, particularly after a paper has been accepted and publicised are viewed by the Programme Committee as highly unprofessional.

COMMERCIALISM

SPE has a stated policy against the use of commercial trade names, company logos, or language that is commercial in tone in the paper title, text or slides. Use of such terms will result in careful scrutiny by the Programme Committee in evaluating abstracts and the presence of commercialism in the paper may result in its being withdrawn from the programme.

SPE CONFERENCE DUAL SUBMISSION POLICY

Authors will be allowed to submit abstracts to only one conference at a time. An abstract must be declined by a programme committee prior to being submitted to another conference for consideration. In the event it is detected that an abstract has been submitted to more than one conference, all versions/copies of that abstract will be removed from consideration. Any paper previously presented at a conference and published in OnePetro may not be re-submitted for publication at another SPE conference. The author may present the subject matter at subsequent conferences at the invitation of the programme committee, but the paper will not be included in the conference proceedings.

NO PRESENTATION POLICY

The failure of SPE conference authors to have at least one designated individual present the paper at the conference will result in the conference paper being permanently withdrawn from the SPE technical paper archive in OnePetro.
