SPEAKER PROFILE Ian Gillingham Market Development Manager, Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Group Ian has over 30 years’ experience in the energy industry, renewable energy and waste management. Ian recently joined the Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Group as the Market Development Manager and has previously held senior roles with Powercor/CitiPower, working closely with industry, community and environmental sustainability groups across northern and central Victoria. Ian is currently working with waste generators, collectors and processors, helping them to support waste recycling opportunities. Ian holds a Masters of Business Administration and he lives in Bendigo. LODDON MALLEE ORGANICS RECOVERY INFORMATION SERIES Matthew Allen Senior Consultant, Rawtec As a Senior Consultant at Rawtec, Matthew manages a range of projects relating to waste, recycling and resource management. Some larger projects Matthew has recently completed include writing the tender specifications for the joint procurement of waste services for Loddon Mallee Councils, the Recycling Activity Survey for South Australia, a compostable packaging cost comparison tool for Adelaide Airport, and a waste and resource recovery infrastructure plan for the Limestone Coast. Relating to this information series is a recent project where Matthew helped finalise the Loddon Mallee Regional Organics Strategy 2019-25. Karen Fazzani Executive Officer, Loddon Mallee Waste and Resoure Recovery Group Karen has over 25 years experience in senior public sector management positions, predominately environment related. She is the current Executive Officer of the Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Group, a Statutory Authority under the Environment Protection Act. Karen holds a Bachelor of Business, Master of Business Administration (Public Sector), is a Certified Practising Accountant and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Karen is passionate about the environment and the rural farming community she lives in and loves to travel. She is a current Board member of Women’s Health Loddon Mallee, Wedderburn Tourism Board of Management, Wedderburn Community House and Treasurer/Secretary of the Wedderburn Fire Brigades Group and a mentor for the MATES program. HORTICULTURE INDUSTRY Gus Recaman Project Lead (Organics), Sustainability Victoria Gus is a passionate individual, committed to using his skills and training in sustainability, environment and business administration to implement triple bottom line sustainability practices. He has eight years’ professional experience in sustainability, project and contract management and data analysis along with a Masters of Environment and a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Gayle SeddonSenior Strategic Advisor (Acting), Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery GroupAs Senior Strategic Advisor (Acting) for the Victorian Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group (MWRRG), Gayle has led the development of a kerbside food and garden organics collection service guide for local government to support councils to plan for and implement Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) recycling services and is now providing training to metropolitan and regional councils in the use of the guide. Gayle also coordinates and facilitates MWRRG’s Waste Education Network and Resource Recovery Centre and Transfer Station Network, holding regular events and industry tours to build the capacity of local government officers to deliver successful waste and recycling education and engagement programs and increase their understanding of waste and resource recovery systems. With tertiary and professional qualifications in environmental science, environmental management, environmental education and organisational leadership, Gayle has held executive and senior management roles within the waste industry and across the environmental sustainability sector, both in Australia and overseas.

Dan WilsonHull to Energy, Co-generation, Facility Manager, Select HarvestsDan has over 20 years’ experience in the fixed plant environment and previously held position as Operations Mangers at Darwin Helium Liquification gas plant. Dan relocated his family to Mildura in 2017 and was employed by Select Harvests as an operator at the Cogeneration power plant. Dan then earned a leadership role with the final construction phase. He is currently employed as the power plant manager and oversees the compost production from the power plant waste stream.

Chris CurranManaging Director, Worm HitWith a farming background and the sole purpose of improving soils by reducing the use of chemical fertilisers and a reduction of waste to landfill, Chris investigated the pelletising of worm castings. Early trials produced outstanding results with obvious improvements to the root growth of all plants and crops where it is used. The trials on cereal crops proved even more exciting with farmers seeing better yields and changes to the soil structure with less compaction and more friable soils.
