1. Long Island Chapter Presidential Message February 2015

Wow! Our last event occurred right before the snow storm. Should I call that perfect timing or pure luck? Keep your fingers crossed for future events and be safe. Our Chapter is continuing to have great success due to your active participation! Our recent program event “View from the Top: Trends in Internal Audit Governance and Evaluation” was well received. The presentation by the IIA North American Board Incoming Chair, Larry Harrington on “The Future of the Internal Audit Profession” was exhilarating and high impact to say the least. During our luncheon folks were still talking of Larry’s presentation. This event drew a considerable crowd of 84 participants.

Our Board of Governors (BOG) met in February and we are planning several events based on your input. The next event “The Annual Fraud Conference” will provide 8 CPE credits. This year our focus is on white-collar crime and we have quite the program in store for you!

1. Presidential Message – February 2015 - - continued - -

Esteemed national expert, Dr. Joan Pastor, will unlock for all of us the unanswered issues as to the “why” or as we refer to it “rationalization” followed by the motivating issues surrounding white-collar crime. We will have as our special guest and luncheon presenter, Nelson Sheingold, Deputy Comptroller and Counselor for Investigations for the New York State Comptroller, Thomas P. Di Napoli, who will discuss white collar crime and the undertaking of his offices in this effort in New York State. A must event for all, last year we had 155 participants.

Remember, it is extremely important that you all complete the post-event survey. This is your opportunity to recommend any topic(s) and or speaker(s) that our membership would want to see in future programs, such as this year’s IT Conference in March, or our Annual Conference in April. As a token of our appreciation, all completed survey submittals are automatically entered in a raffle for a prize.

Thank you for supporting us in helping our chapter GO GREEN. All presentations are sent out electronically for you to download 1-2 days before the meeting. Look for the e-mail from Jared Greco, IIA LI Chief Information Officer [[email protected]]. Please make sure that your spam filter is set correctly and is not filtering out the document or your CPE certificate to download.

We need to “stay focused”, and with your help, we can achieve our annual performance goals:

Continue to meet the needs of and provide the best quality of presentation to our membership; Promote attaining IIA certifications; Grow our membership in depth (CAEs, Managers, Supervisors, Lead Auditors, Field Auditors,

etc.) Increase student participation; Continue to effectively network with our IIA home base, our District Leader/Advisor, and our

local chapters.

Our momentum is heading in the right direction, and we are in for an exciting year. If you wish to make a recommendation or would like to consider joining one of our committees, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of our Officers, BOG, or Committee members. We are all connected at: [email protected]

Kind regards,Robert C. McNair CIA, CRMA, MBA, MSPresident, Institute of Internal Auditors-Long [email protected]
