MAY 2017

I hope all is well with everyone, now that spring has sprung and the time has come to get out in the yard and get it back in shape.

I also hope everyone has signed up for the next meeting to be held in Bradenton and hosted by Ken & Angie Kilmer. It promises to be a fun time. See the information in this newsletter to make your reservations.

Also needing attention, if not already done so, is to sign up for the SFA Convention, June 12 – 17, in Fayetteville.

The next important item is the election of Chapter Officers for the term of 2018 – 2019. Please see the ballot included in this newsletter. As you can see, we have one person running for each office. Therefore, we will not mail out ballots to our membership. We will have a voice/show of hands vote at the meeting in June. For those of you unable to attend the meeting and having a disagreement with this procedure, please let me know prior to the June meeting. You may also detach the ballot and mail it in or you may reply by email to:

Don Rice168 Huntington Drive Kingsland, GA 31548 [email protected]

There is always bad news to report. We have lost another member of the Chapter and a former member of the Chapter.

Shelby Mapp, D-1242A passed away in November. Still waiting for more information. Also, Bob Blair, a former member who transferred to Chapter 7 up in the Panhandle of Florida, passed away in December. Also, Nancy Mulcahy was interred in Arlington National Cemetery on May 4, 2017. Rest in peace Nancy.

It’s not too early for me to ask for volunteers to host a meeting next year. If you haven’t noticed, the same folks always step up. Let’s add some to the mix.

In April, a flyer was sent out RE: a raffle for a Pistol. This raffle is being conducted by Chapter 88, in Jacksonville. They sent me 24 tickets. All have been sold. If you desire tickets, please contact Chapter 88.

NOTICE TO ANNUAL DUES MEMBERS.If you have not received your 2017 Membership Card, please contact Tom Tomlin ASAP

******************************************************************************

SFA Memorial Building Fund Raffle.

We have all received the raffle tickets from SFA MBF. This year it is very important to participate by sending in the ticket stubs and $25.00 check. This money is needed to help on the continued reconstruction of the grounds and out buildings from the flood damage. Also, a big plus, the Chapter receives one half of the amount for tickets credited to Chapter 21. Be sure to send your ticket stubs in and BE SURE TO INDICATE CHAPTER 21 on them.

*******************************************************************************************

As reported last month, the Chapter received a generous donation ($685.60) from the Indian River County Veterans Mall Foundation. This donation is to be used helping/assisting NEEDY veterans. If any member knows of any veteran who needs some help, please contact Richard Whitman or Tom Tomlin or Phil Devon.

NOTE: A Big Thank You to Chapter member Ed Britt for directing this donation to us.

HEALTH & WELFARE

1. Al & Toni Boman: Al and Toni are both doing fairly well. Toni is still progressing in regaining the use of her left arm and leg. Hang in there Toni, you Will Make It.

2. Bob Cherry: Marianne reports that Bob continues to get stronger and doing much better now. Bob, it is probably from that good home cooking Marianne is fixing for you.

3. Sharon Hoagland/Dan Young: Sharon reports that she and Dan are both doing fairly well now. Sharon is recovering from a couple of surgeries to rebuild her elbow (fell and shattered it about 3 months ago) and Dan has had procedures done on both legs. They both send their Best Wishes to All and hope to see us in Bradenton. Hey Sharon, can we come watch you wheel the wheel chair around in circles (with only one arm working) ???

4. Robert Johansen: 'Jo' reports he is doing very good with the heart problem but now experiencing a lot of back pain (from previous surgery). He will update us when further testing is completed. Hey 'Jo', that pain comes from the doc's beating on you during those "Code Blues" you had.

5. Bill Brown: Bill and Peg are both doing well and "holding it in the middle" Bill recently had PET scans and bone marrow test done. Received a good report, all clear. Says he will be OK until the next suspicious spots show up. They both send greetings to all who may remember them.
