Preparation Before the learning center can be implemented some preparation is required. You will need space in your classroom to hang the posters and have room for the activity cards. 1. Make a large copy of ‘The Three-Story Intellect’ poster. Included is a
color copy (pg. 11) and a black and white copy (pg. 12) of the poster. The best size is A0: 841 x 1189mm or 33.1 x 46.8inches. Below are some ways this could be done:
Take this PDF file to a printer and get them to print the page required to
the desired size. It is cheaper to print in black and white than color. If you print in black and white you can then paint the different colors on the poster.
Alternatively you could draw your own house design based on the examples in this pack. To ensure the poster lasts, it is best to also have it laminated. The picture opposite is of the poster I have used in my classroom. Please note, the house is slightly different in the picture than what has been included in this pack.

How To Use
1. Explain to your students the different levels of learning: gathering, processing and applying. 2. Provide each student with a ‘Spelling Contract’ (pg. 15). These inform
the students of the activity they are required to complete for each day. The contract also lists 3 personal challenge tasks. These are more
detailed tasks that students need to complete in the fortnight (after they have completed the daily activities). 3. When students complete one of the spelling activities, they fill in the corresponding brick color and stick it to the house poster. 4. When students have completed the daily spelling activity, they continue to work on their personal challenge task. 5. By the end of the fortnight the house will be filled with bricks, which are
all the activities the class has completed. 6. Students have also completed their personal challenge task. Allow time
for students to share their challenges and play the spelling games. 7. For the start of the new fortnight (and new spelling words) remove the
old bricks and provide students with a new spelling contract. They must select a different personal challenge task than the previous fortnight.
The Three-Story Intellect Which floor are you on?
1. Choose and complete an
activity card.
Green Card = Gathering
Yellow Card = Processing
Blue Card = Applying
2. When you have finished,
complete a brick that is
the same color as your
activity and attach it to
our house.
3. You need to complete at
least one card from each
level.
