This is a program for students to learn spelling with word patterns. Our classroom is divided into 4 groups; each group is a different country – Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Your child knows what group they are in so make sure to ask them. Each group will get a new word sort every two weeks. They will be tested on that sort on the last Friday of the two weeks. The test could be words from the current sort or it can be other words that fit the pattern of the sort. We will be working with our word sorts 3 times a week for 15-20 minutes in the classroom. This is where you come in. I strongly encourage having your child practice their word sorts at home. I will send their sort home with them (every other Monday) and they can cut it out and sort the words. Below are some ideas of how to use the sorts at home. Dear Parents,

We have started a new program in our classroom – Words Their Way. This is a program for students to learn spelling with word patterns. Our classroom is divided into 4 groups; each group is a different country – Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Your child knows what group they are in so make sure to ask them. The test could be words from the current sort or it can be other words that fit the pattern of the sort. We will be working with our word sorts 3 times a week for 15-20 minutes in the classroom. This is where you come in. I strongly encourage having your child practice their word sorts at home.
