"So you care about Spike more than me!" Willowshrieked at Giles. "What, are you two lovers now? Is that whatthis is?"

Giles opened his mouth to calm the distraught girl.

"Will" but she snapped her hand up, cutting him o."Whatever. Go shag"here she paused, sneering, using

the ritish slang as a weapon"or whatever it is you two doall day now. #ust don$t tell me about it."

Giles slumped, de%eated, as Willow turned and stormed%rom the room. &nd because she turned, because he wascleaning his glasses %ret%ully, neither noticed the slight 'ashin her eyes. (omentairly, she stormed back in. "&)S*, this is(+ room."

"+es, yes It is. I was wondering when you were goingto..."

&gain, she threw her hand up. "-hat means you're supposed to go, not me." She held the door pointedly, andglared into the hall. Giles replaced his glasses, then slunk outand back to his home de%eated. Spike had been right shewasn$t dealing as well as he thought. Spike had been right.Imagine. /e couldn$t %athom it, but it was breaking his heart.Willow, not Spike.

/is thoughts were 0umbled as he slipped into thekitchen. /e would have to prepare that truth spell himsel%.Where did he keep the hen$s teeth again? /e shook his head, sighed, and pulled his glasses o to clean them. It usuallyhelped clear his head &h. /en$s teeth were behind thesugar. 1oor Willow. 2o, hen$s teeth &nd where was therosemary?

3ventually, he %elt reasonably well assembled. /e was

%airly con4dent he had assembled the ingredients correctly, but he was still somewhat concerned about his own castingability. &h well. 5ouldn$t hurt to try. -ime to %etch Spike %romthe shower. 2o way to set up the ritual properly in there.

/e shook his head, tried to clear the cobwebs. /isthoughts plodded along with him as he walked down the hall. -oday made him %eel old. *ld and helpless. /e didn$t know

how to reach her, and his brain %elt like it was 4lling withsand. (aybe what he needed was a nap. God, he must beold. & nap. /e sighed, and reached %or the door knob.

/is hand hit metal, and he paused. /e always had to

brace himsel% be%ore %acing that worthless e6cuse %or avampire. It was 0ust pain%ul. /onestly, it was like looking intoa mirror. & dark, distorted mirror. I% things had turned out 0usta little dierently, he could have been Spike. /e hated toadmit that, even to himsel%, but it occupied the overhangbeneath his ribcage even when he didn$t look.

*ld. So old. &nd with another sigh he tuned the handleand went in.

"Well it$s about bloody time! &nd you$d better have

gotten a better mug this time. I$m not drinking out o% yoursoddin$ $7iss the )ibrar..$ *I!" Spike 0umped 8as much as hecould, being bound in chains and all9 in the tub. "Where$s myblood!?"

"/ello to you too, Spike. +ou can have your blood "disgusted snort"a%ter we 4nish the truth spell." Giles bentdown to unlock Spike$s chains.

Spike pulled back de%ensively. "Where$s your littlewitch? She$s supposed to be here."

"Well she$s not. I am per%ectly capable per%orming asimple truth spell on my own, Spike." Giles ran his handthrough his hair, clucking his tongue a little.

3ver intuitive, Spike attempted to plaster himsel%against the back wall. "*i, watch it! 5an$t have youscrambling this 4ne head o% mine!" :or a brie% moment, Spikeseemed to dance like a cobra as he swayed %rom Giles$reaching hand.

"W*;)< +*; #;S-" Giles roared, lunging at the lithevampire. -here was a single in4nite instant %or Spike where

everything hung in the air. /e %elt Giles$ vicelike grip on hisshoulders, saw the hand raising to slap him and 0ust thought,Bollocks. /e$d 4nally pushed the old bugger too %ar and hewas going to pay. In this instant, in this e6act moment, Giles

was not human. Giles was an animal, hunting his prey.&nd then the librarian$s pinkie slipped %rom the thin

%abric o% Spike$s -shirt and his 4nger brushed the vampire$scollarbone and three as an almost audible pop and a point o%

burning cold. Giles slumped backwards, 4re gone. Spike hungin the ack o% the tub, lips parted, panting. &side %rom theuseless breaths, he didn$t move. /e was shocked, and wary.

Giles shi%ted his glasses uncom%ortably. "Spike I" /esighed, shook his head. Wearily, he reached %or Spike$s chainsand began to 4ddle with the lock. Somehow, Spike knew thatthis was Giles apologi=ing. Which would have been odd, buttoday the librarian looked like he$d had all his insides scoopedouthollow. &gainst his better 0udgement, Spike %elt a wave

    o% sympathy %or the man.In %act, he had to 4ght a sudden urge to grab Giles$

hand, to tell him it would all work out. *dd. >ery odd. &ndrather disconcerting. /e 0ust looked so pathetic %or amoment. Spike shook himsel% lightly, but %ollowed Giles to theliving room without a %uss. It would be impossible to resistGiles right now. Something in his bearing 0ust neededcom%orting. &nd no way in hell was Spike going to do that. -he closest he came was going gently into the chair as thelibrarian reached %or the ropes.

-hen Giles hesitated, looked at Spike a little oddly. +ouwon@t run, will you?A -he corner o% his mouth turned up. Itwas not a smile it was something sadder, and older. &gain,Spike bit down the urge to touch Giles, to smooth the tragicBuirk %rom his so%t lips. 5/CIS-. -his was bad. It got worsewhen Giles actually reached out and brushed the vampire@ssilveryblonde hair. What was bad was that Spike leaned in to

the touch.&nd then the librarian had a tiny start and yanked hishand away. /e turned to study the spellbook. Spike turned tostudy his... 2*. 2ot happening. in a veneer o% pro%essionalism.:ortunately, Spike was 0ust as occupied in being

unoccupied, so it worked out pretty well. /e did notice aslight 'ush to Giles$s neck. ut it was the light. *r scotch. *ranything. ut not that. -his wasn@tcouldn@t bethat. &ndthen Giles looked up. -hey locked eyes.

Spike %elt something power%ul and ine6plicable washingover him. /e looked at the greying librarian 4ercely scrubbingthe tiny bowl, %ace screwed with such determination, and)ord help him, Spike thought it was adorable. 3ven Giles$s'owered pink apron was endearing. Well, this is happening.  -he thought dri%ted across the vampire@s mind as i% it

Giles and slip his arms around the librarian@s waist. It was, in%act, per%ectly natural to caress the man@s neck with his nose.It was e6pected that Giles could resist no longer, that hewould groan and collapse into the vampire@s embrace. It had

always been this way. It would always be thus. With a moan, Giles rolled his head aside, giving the

Spike %ull access to his neck. /is gesture was not unrewarded, and he shivered as the vampire@s cool lips traced the curve.Spike gripped him tighter, inhaling the warm, musky scent.Giles writhed weakly beneath the onslaught. /e %elt weak inthe knees, and, %or the 4rst time, ready to surrendercompletely.

Spike, ever the predator, sensed his victory and shi%ted

his grip so that he spun Giles round and li%ted him onto thecounter. &s he began to attack the buttons o% Giles$s shirtwith his teeth, the librarian hued, S1I73! +ou@ve got myarse in the sink. (y pants are getting wet!A
