What is UNICEF?

• UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, was founded in 1946 to meet the emergency needs of children in war-torn Europe, China and the Middle East.

• UNICEF now works in more than 158 countries. • In 1965, UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Peace

Prize for Peace, linking its lifesaving work for children with world peace.

• The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is a non-profit organization

Trick-or-Treat forFor over 50 years, ‘Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” has raised funds and awareness on behalf of UNICEF through its motto, Kids Helping Kids.

“Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF”

volunteers participate through local schools, civic, and faith-based organizations to inform the public about the problems facing many of the world’s children.

• Have a security plan regarding the money you collect. Plan out how you will make sure that it is kept safe and secure.

• Have change available during your fundraiser if you are selling goods, tickets, etc

• Write up a short article about the event and send it along with a photo to your local newsletter editor.

A Little Money Goes a Long Way

• 3¢ Supplies one dose of vitamin A to boost children's immune systems and prevent blindness.

• 5¢ Provides iodized salt for one year for one child, to prevent stunted physical and mental growth.

• $1.00 Immunizes one child against polio for life, protecting him or her against the disease and preventing its spread to nearby communities.

• $2.00 Buys one nutritional kit for a severely malnourished child. Kit includes basic food supplements until appropriate food aid can be supplied.

• $3.75 Provides educational materials for a child for one year and helps cover the cost of teacher supplies. Materials include books, pencils, a school bag, slate board, chalk, posters, rulers, safety scissors, and notebooks.
