sportmakers.co.uk

WELCOME!This year, it’s your turn to be a sporting heroSport Makers is a national Olympic legacy programme to support hundreds of thousands of new hours of grassroots sport across the country.

As a Sport Maker you will make sport happen at the local level. Some Sport Makers will organise sport for themselves and their friends, colleagues and neighbours. Others won’t be taking part themselves, but will be doing all those other things that make the sporting activity possible.

County Sports Partnerships are here to support you and help you find local opportunities to increase participation in sport.

At this convention you will hear how you can be part of the Olympic Legacy and will get the chance to meet athletes, volunteers, representatives of leisure facilities and the governing bodies of loads of sports. There are opportunities for everyone whether you want to help local clubs, form a new team or just get some friends together for a kick about.

It’s easy to be a Sport Maker and we are looking forward to showing you how.

WHAT DIFFERENCE CAN I MAKE?Every Sport Maker will attend a FREE convention or workshop which will provide you with the information and tools you need to decide how to proceed.

Sport needs people like you to make it happen and by becoming a Sport Maker you can acquire the skills, knowledge and opportunities you need to get more people playing sport.

Or to put it another way, you will become the sort of sporting hero that makes a difference to the lives of other people – and have a good time doing it.

So go on...Be the Inspiration - Be a Sport Maker

Sport Makers are people who make sport happen. People like you.

The programme was developed as part of Places People Play, the legacy strategy for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to create a lasting legacy and everyone can play their part. If you are feeling inspired and would like to get involved then there is so much you can achieve.

By becoming a Sport Maker you can:• Have fun• Be a part of London 2012• Meet new friends• Have new experiences• Boost your health and fitness • Enhance your CV

Every one of us can help make a positive change, from inviting your friends to join you on a Saturday morning run to laying down a challenge like running the Leeds or Bradford Half Marathons or even starting your very own running club.

Whatever your sport or activity you wish to be involved in, just by knowing you want to be a part of the legacy of The Games is enough - we can help you to become a Sport Maker.

THERE’S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO MAKE SPORT HAPPEN...

How you choose to contribute is up to you, but there are four main roles to choose from. You can do as many types of activity as you like, they all count to your hours. What matters is that more people get to play.

What are the different types of Sport Maker?Sport Makers are asked to commit to logging at least ten hours of activity to get more people playing sport.

100% informal You are the instigator. You call your

friends to arrange something fun you can all do together to get active such as: • Weekly swimming• Running or football in the park• Throw down a challenge to train

for and run a charity 5kWhat would you like to do?

NGB programmeYou are the leader. You bring your work colleagues together to take part in range

of informal National Governing Body participation products such as:

• No strings badminton• Back to netball• Run England

Or you could form a 5-a-side team and join a local league. Its up to you

Event volunteerYou are the grafter. You commit your time

to help an event attract more participants and run smoothly on the day. There are lots of local mass participation events that need your help

in your local area such as:• Open water swims• Triathlons • Cycling events. • Sport Relief Miles

Be part of a great cause

Club volunteerYou share your skills. You volunteer to assist a local club with whatever it is they need to cater for more members. You have a skill that would

help, such as organisation. • Help the club set up a local league• Run an open day • Promote and organise taster sesssions • Help get other people involved

There’s lots you can do.
