OPTOJUMP 2D SYSTEMThe Optojump system can be set up in a grid for two-dimensional acquisition - this function makes it possible to:

• Acquire highly accurate movement of the athlete within the 6m x 6m area

• Create exercises and reaction tests in which the athlete must move along a pre-defined course inside the measurement area testing their reactivity and concentration

• Perform complex tests that involve the combination of two or more tests or the combination of jump tests with movement tests

• Measure posture and the landing mode of the foot (heel, toe, angle, etc.)

• Calculate the position on the X and Y coordinates in real time (for example to detect the tendency of an athlete to move from a pre-defined position during a series of jumps)

In addition to the 2D set up, the system can be set up in multiple configurations for a variety of tests such as change of direction test and turning tests.

The Optojump Modular system is an optical measurement system to analyse walking, running or sprinting and any specific movements such as turns and change of direction. In addition to the data that can be collected from the Optojump Jump system (see Page 6). The modular system will measure:

• Step and stride length• Contact time• Exact and average acceleration• Exact and average speed• Stride angle• Treading mode (heel or toe)• The imbalance index (real contact time vs ideal contact time)

OPTOJUMP JUMP TESTING SYSTEM

OPTOJUMP ON A TREADMILL Optojump can easily be placed on the side of any treadmill for walking or running analysis. The system will allow you to analyse: stride length, contact time, cadence, acceleration and gait cycle amongst many other parameters.

OPTOJUMP AND WITTY INTEGRATIONOptojump may be used in combination with the Witty Timing system (see page 21). The photocells can give the external start impulse and to stop the test, as well as recording intermediate times during the sprint/run test with modular systems.

Optojump is an optical measurement system for jump testing - the system consists of a transmitting and receiving bar, each containing 100 LEDS (1cm resolution). The system detects any interruptions in communication between the bars, calculates the duration flight time, contact time, height of jump and relative power (W/kg) during a series of jumps with an accuracy of 1/1000s. The bars can be positioned up to six metres apart and equipment such as hurdles etc can be positioned between the bars if required.

Gyko is an inertial measurement unit which measures and reports velocity, orientation, and gravitational forces of the body, using a combination of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers.

The Gyko system is used in combination with Optojump - the combined system can provide additional and important information on the dynamic of the upper part of the body. The Gyko and Optojump will provide similar data to a Force Plate including jump height and take off velocity.

The combination of Optojump and Gyko has the ability to provide the following info:• Body sway data• Eccentric-concentric parameters of jumps• Dynamic stability control data• Dynamic range of motion (D-ROM)

Using a combination of Optojump and Gyko will provide information on the compensation and dynamic control of the trunk while marching in place, walking or running. JUMP TESTING

SMART MAT JUMP SYSTEMThe Smart Mat is a portable jump mat that can be used either linked to a hand held unit or direct to a PC. Height jumped is measured in 0.1cm increments and flight time to a 1/1000th second. The height jumped and reactive strength (a ratio of flight time to contact time) are calculated and all four are displayed. The hand held computer is battery operated and the system includes a padded carry case.

YARDSTICK JUMP TESTING SYSTEMThe Yardstick is a simple device for measuring a subject’s vertical jump height. The subject jumps and touches the highest possible vane which rotates to show the height jumped.

Manufactured from aluminium and includes a wheeled carry bag for portability.

PASCO PORTABLE FORCE PLATFORMSPasco Force Platforms are entry level portable platforms that can be be used independently or as a pair to measure differences between right and left legs. The Force Platforms can be used to measure the dynamic vertical force involved in moving and jumping. The Pasco Platforms can also be linked to the ForceDecks Software for more detailed analysis and reporting. See Page 8 for more details.

The platform has the measurement range and strength to accommodate people of all sizes and the sensitivity to measure smaller forces such as the weight of a ball. Put the platform on the floor to measure vertical force, or mount it on a wall to measure horizontal force.

FORCEDECKS FORCE TESTING

Force platform technology gives a much deeper insight into the traditional methods used to profile athletic performance, such as a squat, drop jump or counter-movement jump (CMJ). When a CMJ is performed on a force platform in addition to jump height, the technology reveals how the jump was performed through novel force-time variables during and between the concentric and eccentric phases of the jump.

Like single-force platforms, dual-force platforms can be used to assess strength and power asymmetries in unilateral jump and isometric tests. However, they provide an additional level of intelligence on an athlete’s neuromuscular status by evaluating the force distribution between left and right limbs during double-limb tests. This provides critical information on strength asymmetries and compensatory strategies.

ForceDecks dual platforms measure force at 1000Hz when static and dynamic actions are performed. At the click of a button, the ForceDecks software then provides feedback on key metrics related to muscle performance, injury risk and/or rehabilitation progress such as jump height, peak power and force - as well as a range of 'novel' markers of athletic performance, fatigue and rehab progress such as flight time, contraction time, eccentric duration and asymmetries in the take-off and landing phases.

The platforms can also measure performance and asymmetries in static measures of maximum strength such as isometric mid-thigh pull and posterior chain tests.

The system allows strength and conditioning, medical and sports science practitioners to perform evidence-based tests related to performance, fatigue, injury risk and return-to-play allowing them to:

1) Assess whether adaptions to strength and power training programmes are improving an athlete’s neuromuscular performance - or not.2) Improve management of athlete workload and fatigue by assessing a range of markers of their response to competition and training. 3) Identify strength and impulse asymmetries, and compensatory strategies which are associated with prior injury and potentially increase the risk of further injury.

The ForceDecks software can also be used with other Force Platforms including: Pasco, Kistler and Bertec.

KBOX ECCENTRIC TRAINING

KBOX ECCENTRIC TRAININGThe kBox has been designed around the principle of flywheel training. Flywheel training offers safe and easy eccentric overload offering the user higher gains in muscle mass and strength.

The athlete wears the harness/waistbelt and works against the inertia of up to four metal flywheels which can put a large eccentric load onto the lower body. Alternatively with less load and lower inertia the kBox can be used for rehabilitation work. Attachments can be added to the kBox to enable a variety of movements to work the arms, shoulders, lower back etc.

You can also attach any handle or grip and do many upper body pulling and pushing exercises for arms, shoulders, upper and lower back.

K METERThe Exxentric kMeter is a wireless science based feedback system for flywheel training. The kMeter system is developed specifically to accurately monitor power and energy as well as estimate force during flywheel training on the kBox. HRV is a relatively new method for assessing the effects of stress on your body. It is measured as the time gap between your heart beats that varies as you breathe in and out. Research evidence increasingly links high HRV to good health and a high level of fitness, whilst decreased HRV is linked to stress, fatigue and even burnout. ithlete measures your HRV, as well as your resting heart rate, every morning during a one minute test. After you have built up a baseline over a few days, the ithlete software algorithms compare your daily readings with the baseline to determine if any significant changes have taken place. These are reflected in traffic lights for the day’s training and in a chart to help you track trends.

ithlete Team System The ithlete Team App is a single destination for viewing and managing all your team data. It resides on the ithlete Cloud making it secure and accessible, any time of the day. THERE IS A CHOICE OF MONITORS TO COLLECT THE HRV DATA:ithlete ECG Receiver The ithlete ECG receiver is a small receiver that picks up the signal from your heart rate monitor chest strap. It plugs into the headset jack of your Apple or Android phone, iPod touch or Tablet and picks up the wireless signal from your chest strap, allowing the time gaps between your individual heart

beats to be measured very precisely by the ithlete app.

ithlete Bluetooth Smart Heart Rate Monitor The Cardiosport Blue Heart Rate Monitor chest strap allows you to send heart beat information directly to your compatible device using Bluetooth Smart Technology without the need for the ithlete ECG receiver. In order to measure HRV a chest strap monitor must transmit RR intervals.

The Cardiosport Blue model was designed with this in mind and provides ECG accurate information which is why we recommend this model to ithlete users. The Cardiosport Blue strap has a range of 10m or more. Additionally the digital connection does not suffer from interference problems which have plagued heart rate monitor straps in the past.

It is essential to get enough sleep but sleep should also be structured properly and contain enough REM sleep for the recovery of the mind and sufficient deep sleep for the recovery of the body. Emfit QS records total amount and structure of sleep, the percentages of recuperating REM and deep sleep.

Tracking heart rate variability throughout the night will give you a detailed picture of progression of your recovery during the night. Heavy training lowers the RMSSD value and recovery raises it- if the evening value is low you know that training that day was effective. If the morning value is high, you are fully recovered and ready to train. The Emfit QS system will also tell you how much light, deep and REM sleep you get each night and the software will allow you to look at long term trends to help you recognize sleep affecting lifestyle patterns. Emfit QS also measures respiration rate and uses this data and heart rate data and movement activity to calculate the sleep classes.

One of the main restrictions of other sleep monitoring systems is users having to wear a heart rate belt which can be invasive and disturb sleep patterns. Emfit QS uses proprietary sensor technology which is built into a lightweight mat that is placed under the mattress- it is a self biased electro-active material and does not generate any capacitive field that might disturb the users sleep. It also has embedded Wi-Fi for mobile data connectivity- the transceiver is connected by a long cable to avoid sleep disturbance. It has its own processor and memory so the user doesn’t need to keep their mobile device next to them all night. There is no need to turn anything on or off- the system automatically starts measuring when you go to sleep and the data is available in the morning for analysis on your smartphone, tablet or computer.

WITTY SEM COGNITIVE TRAINING


COGNITIVE TRAINING SYSTEMCognition in motion is the latest offering from Microgate, the company behind the Optojump and Witty family. Working in partnership with brain HQ (Posit science) Microgate have developed a training system that allows athletes to not only train physically on agility and reactivity, but also mentally, enhancing key cognitive parameters such as: awareness, brain speed, memory and intelligence.

Coming together to combine their knowledge of sports training with researchers in neuroscience, psychology, medical doctors and others, Microgate have been able to integrate brain training into their Witty SEM system. This allows athletes to train on their mental capabilities enhancing skills such as decision making, situational awareness and processing speed.

How does it work? In almost every sport, both team and individual, athletes are faced with 100’s of decisions and decision making processes every minute. The right or wrong decision can often be the difference or be attributed to winning or losing. Synonymously, athletes at elite levels are also required to process patterns such as situational awareness, positioning and make informed decisions on what’s going to happen next in play. The best athletes in the world are often those who have the ability to make some of these cognitive processes autonomous, who also have the ability to make decisions quickly and precisely, based on their awareness of their surroundings.

Brain HQ (Posit Science) have developed 5 self-administered tests that allow athletes to work on brain speed, awareness, memory and intelligence. Microgate have been able to incorporate these tests into the Witty SEM system allowing athletes to train on these cognitive parameters during physical training. This is where the term ‘Cognition in motion’ comes from.

Useful field of view measures (UFOV) - measures the amount of information that can be accurately captured at a glance (at both the center of gaze and periphery).

The Witty SEM is a 7 x 5 LED matrix indicator integrated into the Witty infrastructure, providing a selection of different visual cues, including:

The compact size, anatomical shape and innovative design makes the Witty Timing System practical and easy to use. Graphical icons and on-screen instructions on the colour display ensure user-friendliness and ease of use. With 8 different radio frequencies to choose from, it is possible to work simultaneously with several Witty systems in the same training area.

Various pre-configured test types are available (single tests, group tests, in-line tests, shuttles, counter, etc.) plus the user can also create customised test protocols directly on the timer. The Witty System stores and displays all times which can then be downloaded into the Witty Manager software.

Due to the integrated transmission system, the photocells are highly reliable and have a range of 150m. Coded radio transmission ensures that the data acquired is transmitted to the timer with the maximum precision (±0.4 thousandths of a second). The Witty timer remotely recognises the photocell ID number, so the user can easily set the signal type on the photocell: start, stop, and intermediate times.

Dual BeamsThe Witty system can be set up as a dual beam system, i.e. one on top of the other, so that only the simultaneous interruption of both photocells generates a signal. BROWER TELEMETRY TIMING SYSTEMThe Brower Timing System is a wireless timing system to measure time, speed, count repetitions, input test data and save it all in the TC-Timer memory. The TC-System has a range up to 300 metres and is accurate to the 1/1000th second, making it a highly precise timing tool. It is equipped with five different radio frequencies allowing multiple Brower systems to be used in the same area. All components have been designed to fit neatly into a small lumbar pack and weighs only 3kg. The system has seven different timing modes and lets you assign multiple tests to one athlete, which can then be reviewed on the Timer.

PEN PORTABLE HYDRATION ANALYSERThe hand held specific gravity Pen Refractometer utilises the refractive index method to measure the specific gravity of urine as opposed to the Osmocheck which measures osmolality.
