The Spotless team
It’s Sunday, November 16th at 7am. The
sky is covered in dusky clouds; the
merciless wind pushes everything away
provoking the sea and making us
shiver… Brrr! We are now all in line,
ready to start the race; adrenaline’s
pumping; heart’s beating fast,
hundreds of runners around us looking
for the best spot; when suddenly a loud
sound warned us: it is time. We start the
race; some faster, others not so much,
but all determined. And as we run free
Henley Classic 2014
a magnificent sun comes out revealing
the extraordinary scenery. With 5 or 10
km ahead of us, we all made it. We all
crossed the finishing line renewed and
fresh. The Spotless team made a
memorable debut on Henley Classic
2014.

Christmas Picnic
More celebrations…
Donna Bagusauskas 60th birthday celebrated with a surprise party
The best thing about Christmas is
getting together with family and
friends. What best excuse to gather
everyone around than a laden table
with good food and drinks?
This year Spotless Christmas
celebration was all about bringing all
the teams together. Held on the
Botanic Gardens on December 13th,
Spotless cleaners and orderlies
celebrated the joy of Christmas
under beautiful threes and a warm
sun.
Some sat on their picnic chairs and
chat with each other, while others
played footy on the grass, but all
enjoyed the variety of roasts, salads
and desserts provided.
A big thank you goes to our
managers and supervisors that put
this beautiful event together just for
us. Last but not least a huge thanks to
our main sponsor: YOU. That’s right.
Did you know the Human skull is made up of 29
bones? And that Saturn takes over 29 year to orbit
the Sun? I bet you didn’t. There is one more thing you
didn’t know: that 29 is also the number of years
supervisor Donna Bagusauskas has dedicated to the
Royal Adelaide Hospital.
An impressive trajectory spent showing a high degree
of leadership and charisma. All this time coordinating
and caring for the weekend team has paid off.
Donna turned 6oth on December 19th and was gifted
with a surprise party organized by her staff on Sunday
21st. Happy Birthday, Donna! We sure hope to have
you our supervisor for many more years!

Indeed, says Robert McGrath, a clinical
psychologist specializing in mind/body
wellness at University Health Services at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and
for many reasons.
“Humor results in a general decrease in
stress hormones. Vigorous laughter
temporarily increases the heart rate,
benefits the immune system, increases
alertness, and exercises skeletal
muscles,” he says.
Laughter, indeed, is the best medicine.
“And if you are not ready to start your
day with a full dose of this great
medicine, just smile,” he adds. To stay
healthy and happy, McGrath prescribes
30 minutes of exercise, 15 minutes of
humor, and 15 minutes of smiling
meditation.
Is laughing good for your health?
2014 was a great year for safety at the
Royal Adelaide Hospital. We were able
to provide more training to our staff and
engage the company Injury
Management Team in the process; we
increased the number of hazards
reported; we up to date our Safe Work
Procedures and we released our first
WH&S newsletter.
There are still a lot to do, but with your
help we will achieve our primary goal: to
protect the safety and wellbeing of our
workers.

This year we will focus on making our
Toolbox sessions more interactive and
participative, promote health behaviors and
programs, as well as encourage staff
participation on safety initiates.
