Statistically, our students are scoring above the state average on multiple choice questions in ELA.
Our percentages indicate that many students are earning a 2 or below on open response questions.
All Dedham Middle School students need to score 12 or more out of 16 points for the four open response questions.
How will this be achieved?
◦Writing with Colors - focused writing program
◦Common open-response formative assessments
◦Frequent low-stakes writing across the curriculum
◦Greater focus on scaffolding and tracking open-response skills acquisition for student subgroups
A new diagnostic program, Acuity ®, for Mathematics has been purchased for the middle school.
Teachers in grades 6, 7 & 8 will administer periodic diagnostic tests through the use of Acuity ® .
The program will yield data which will allow us to target the specific standards in which a student needs improvement.
Use of low-stakes writing assignments
Increased practice on open response questions with the goal of implementing a secondary version of Writing With Colors called “Light up the Problem”
Strict focus on targeted subgroupings – specifically ELL and Special Education
Continued analysis of spiraled curriculum in the middle school.
Increased time for professional development to allow for teachers in grades 6, 7 & 8 to analyze the test items.
Regular use of low-stakes writing assignments and open response assessments.
