Dear Patriot Fans and Guests: I would like to welcome you to Strong Rock Christian School. I am excited to have you

on our campus as we start the 2012-2013 school year. As we begin our sixth year of

school, Strong Rock has experienced immense growth and development within our

Athletic Department. Strong Rock has 20 athletic teams at the varsity level (Grades 9-12)

and 19 at the academy level (Grades 6-8). The mission of this department is to minister to

student-athletes, coaches and families through the avenue of athletics. Through that

ministry we focus on discipleship, missions and player development.

Our teams value the idea of discipleship. Our coaching staff pours into our student-

athletes with the purpose of making disciples to impact the world for Jesus Christ. This is

done through team Bible studies, off-campus team functions and a continued effort for

spiritual growth. Our teams also concentrate on creating mission opportunities for

student-athletes. This is done by community service, food donations, and other various

types of outreach. The last value of the athletic department is player development. We are

constantly creating programs that will enhance athletic performance and improve the

skills of student-athletes. These programs include our female athlete summer workout

program, summer team camps, and individual instructional camps for our younger

athletes. We are blessed with the opportunity to invest in the lives of the student-athletes

at Strong Rock Christian School. This is an opportunity that we take seriously and

understand that we will be accountable for our investment. It is our ultimate goal to

impact the world for Jesus Christ through this ministry.

This year’s Media Guide was organized and assembled by the Patriot Athletic Club. The

initiative was led by Julie Paulk and Amberly Roberts. We’d like to thank everyone for

their hard work in the inaugural year of the PAC’s Strong Rock Media Guide. Other

individuals that worked on this book include Micky Welch, Peggy Brogan, Wade

Brewer, William Woodall, Charles Woodroof, Van Box, Steve Moore, Sharon Spann,

Missie Bause, Greg Maddox, Pam Strickland, Lynn Bailey, Rosemarie Milby, Lea Folds,

Jay Folds, Rhonda Shaw, Lori Keener, and Steve Ellington. Thanks again to everyone

that helped assemble the 2012-13 Strong Rock Media Guide.

Luke 5:5 - Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I

will let down the nets.

“The vision of the Strong Rock Athletic Program is to develop

spiritual leaders through the avenue of athletics. We are focused on creating an

atmosphere of respect and discipline within all levels of

competition. The spiritual growth of our student-athletes, coaches, and

families is a core value of the Strong Rock athletic

department. We are constantly challenging

these groups to use athletics as a tool to

glorify Jesus Christ - The Strong Rock.”

MEET THE VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM

This year’s Strong Rock Football program motto is “Attitude is a Choice”. Long time Christian educator Charles Swindoll writes “I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my successes or failures, fame or pain, what other people think of me, or say about me, my circumstances, or my position. The attitude I choose keeps me going or cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When my attitudes are right, there’s no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.” We must admit that we spend more of our time concentrating and fretting over the things that can’t be changed than we do giving attention to the one thing that we can change, our choice of attitude. Our coaches and players are working hard towards a positive mental attitude in everything we do.

Philippians 2:3-5 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.

CURT SANDERSPEP BAND DIRECTOR

The motto for this year’s Pep Band is “To Serve.” Let every note we play honor God (Psalm 150). In every performance, no matter what the venue or style of music, let us honor God first. Jesus washed His disciples’ feet (John 13) – setting an example that we should do as He does for us – “To Serve.” Our band program is in the service business. Our Pep Band is totally dedicated to serve our football team, our cheerleaders, and all the fans. How may we serve you?

MEET THE VARSITY CHEERLEADERS

The motto for this year’s Varsity Cheerleading team is bonding through relationships. As a cheer squad we have to be united. To perform even the simplest stunt, we have to trust one another. We gain this trust by forming relationships. By trusting God and leaning on each other during life’s difficulties, we have created an incredible bond. By loving one another as he commanded (John 15:12), we have been able to grow stronger as a squad and build a foundation for our relationships.

As we continue to bring spirit and support to our school, we embrace the fact that we are blessed that our bond grows stronger every day as a squad and through Christ.

PAUL McCRACKENHEAD COACH

This year’s theme for the Volleyball team is found in Colossians 3:15-17, where it says “Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness……Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives – words, actions, whatever – be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.” It is our sincere desire to build each other up every step of the way while we bring Glory to God through our Teamwork, Selflessness, and Praise of the One who gave us the ability to play volleyball.

The theme of cross country this year is “Running to Win,” not only out on the course but also in our individual lives. Jesus Christ has called us to live our lives in such a way that we might win the crown of life. The eternal reward for serving Christ is much greater than winning any medal, ribbon, or trophy on a team. We will work hard to compete as a team, but we will also work hard to serve the Lord in every aspect of our lives. The Bible clearly demands this standard of followers of Christ. 1 Corinthians 9:24 says, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.” We will strive to do so this year as a team.SHAUNA MINK

MEET THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM

The motto for this year’s Varsity Softball team is “Lead from the Front.” True leaders do not delegate or avoid hard work and ‘heavy lifting’ within an organization. Leaders cannot be afraid to get their hands dirty to do what is necessary for success. Jesus Christ showed the ultimate example of leading from the front. He got his uniform dirty by washing his disciples’ feet (John 13). This dirt eventually turned to blood on his uniform as he dragged his cross to his own crucifixion (John 19). Our team is learning what this sacrifice means and how to follow the example that Jesus Christ set. We will not back down from hard work and we will LEAD FROM THE FRONT. PHIL ROBERTS

A Message from Head Coach Allison Gresham

ALLISON GRESHAMHEAD COACH

The Strong Rock Equestrian Team is a group of students ranging from ages 5-18. The group theme for this year is, “Developing the Whole Equestrian.” So often, as athletes, we forget the true meaning of competition; our sport becomes a one-dimensional platform for self-righteous behavior. This year, our equestrian athletes will be encouraged and challenged to dig deeper into their relationship with Christ and discover how that relationship inspires, motivates, and moves them to represent themselves in practice, in competition, and in their everyday interactions. The sport of equestrian is unique because it requires another living being to play a role in the success of the athlete. As the “whole equestrian” develops, students will engage in competition with the parts of their mind, body, and spirit that represent Jesus Christ. Strong Rock Equestrian Athletes will often refer to the scripture from Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Patriot League Flag Football and Cheerleading was formed as a ministry of Strong

Rock Christian School serving the youth sports community.  Now in our third year,

our league has grown in our mission of glorifying God while teaching

fundamentals, teamwork, and forming relationships with families in our

community.   We want to encourage everyone in our community to come out and support all of

the children and parent volunteers that help make our league successful.  Our

Flag Football and Cheer program is offered to boys and girls in grades K‐4th. Please

contact one of us if you have any questions.
