SRI instrument measures mechanical imperfections such as out-of-roundness and non-concentricity with respect to the bearing surface, with relative displacement probes positioned over track area that is adjacent to each bearing. The reading which results from these imperfections, usually known as runout, must be reduced if it exceeds the recommended value.
