GOD'S PLAN FOR AGEING?

Most senior citizens don’t get enough exercise. In His wisdom, God decreed that senior citizens become forgetful so they would have to search for their glasses, keys and other things, thus doing more

walking. And God looked down and saw that it was good. Then God saw there was another need. In His wisdom He made senior citizens lose coordination so

they would drop things requiring them to bend, reach and stretch. And God looked down and saw that it was good.

Then God considered the function of bladders and decided senior citizens would have additional calls of nature, requiring more trips to the bathroom, thus providing more exercise. God looked down and

saw that it was good. So, if you find as you age, you are getting up and down more, remember it’s God’s will. It is all in your

best interest, even though you might mutter under your breath!

ROTARY CLUB OF LOUGHBOROUGH BEACON, PLANT SALE As in previous years we will be running our Plant Sale for deliveries on 18/19 May. You’ll

find our order form on the back page and it has 16 new plants on it. All you have to do is complete your order and send it to the address on the form

together with your remittance. We will do the rest. The distribution of the plants is based locally at Oakley Grange Farm where we

very much appreciate the hospitality of Richard and Inger Mee. John Boyes

A FOCUS FOR OUR PRAYERS Christian anti-persecution charity, Open Doors, released recently its 2018 World Watch list. It ranked

fifty countries where Christians face the most extreme persecution, with scores based on restrictions on private life, family life, community life, national life and church life, as well as violent acts. The ten worst

places listed were: North Korea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan, Eritrea, Libya, Iraq, Yemen and Iran.

LETTER FROM THE CLERGY TEAM Dear Friends,

Lambs skipping in the field and fluffy Easter bunnies are a delightful reminder to us that new life is full of joy and spontaneity. However, when ‘The Easter Bunny’ assumes Father Christmas proportions I do feel a need to assert that Jesus is the reason for the season!

Jesus’ resurrection that we celebrate on Easter Sunday is more than just a happy ending to a harrowing story; it is a cosmic event that changed the whole of creation. As God raised Christ to new life, a way was burst open to restore our unity with God – everything that once separated us

from God lost its power and the way to life in all its fulness was revealed. Saint Augustine puts it this way,

‘On Easter morning we celebrate our belief that not only the human race but every tree, plant, flower and every creature of the earth, the air and the sea is raised with Christ. We (humans) are invited to join the dance of creation and to rejoice in the risen Lord.’

So, yes, as people of this benefice we do relish the joy of a new season and we rejoice in

the new life we see around us in creation: spring flowers, budding trees, chicks, bunnies and lambs (not least in our Lambing service at Long Whatton on Sunday 8th April at 6.15pm, with Loughborough Male Voice Choir adding to the celebrations). But this rejoicing leads us further- to the glorious truth that Jesus’ resurrection means the death of death forever and the sure and certain hope of a new fullness of life- that really is a reason to party, with or without the Easter Bunny!

Wishing you every joy this Easter, Lauretta

Relaxing on the sofa after a very busy day, and watching TV, he heard his wife's voice from the

" He replied, "Thank you, darling. I think I'll have chicken."

I gave my brother a comb for his birthday. He was really touched by my gift even though he’s

totally bald. How do I know? He said he’d never part with it!

CHILDREN’S SOCIETY BOXES Just a few boxes left to come in and we’re up to just over £350 already!

Thank you and keep giving!!

NASA was interviewing for a man to go on the first trip to Mars. Only one could go, it would take a

long time and it would be forever - he wouldn’t be returning to Earth.

The first applicant, an engineer, was asked how much he wanted to be paid for going. “A million

pounds” he answered, “and I want to donate it all to charity”

The next applicant, a doctor, was asked the same question. He asked for a million, too. “I want to

leave it for the advancement of medical research.”

The last applicant was a lawyer. When asked how much money he wanted, he said “Three million”.

The interviewer was shocked. “HOW MUCH?” he shouted.

The lawyer bent forward and whispered in the interviewer’s ear, “Three million pounds - I’ll give you

a million, I’ll keep a million, and we’ll send one of the other idiots to Mars!”
