MISSING CRUCIFIX

A large crucifix which was loaned to us for display in the Fellowship Hall, was removed and stored so that Nativity ban-ners could be hung. When we went to put the crucifix back up, it was not where it was originally stored. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the crucifix is asked to contact the parish office.

From the Desk Of Fr. John

Thank you…thank you! Thank you to everyone who helped in our commitment Sunday for the Di-vine Mercy Senior Living Community. So many have helped along the way…our team members…volunteers…office staff…all of whom have done a great job. Thank you to those who have pledged and given gifts to help our parish reach our goal. There is still time for those who wish to give and help our seniors have a great catholic community of faith to support them in their senior years. So often, we find ourselves not able to get out as often as we might like. This com-munity center will have many facilities that make it easy to socialize…and enjoy the company of oth-ers…and personal privacy when desired. Last Sunday’s commitment giving through gifts and pledges…raised over $67,000! We keep getting clos-er to our goal! Thank you to everyone who is giving and praying for the success of this campaign. We are still waiting for the return of the statue of the BVM. You may have seen the new platform that has been placed in the hallway near the Sacred Heart shrine. We have been anxiously awaiting Mary’s return…and will be happy when she arrives. The statue was outside for many years…and the trees, etc. did some damage to the finish on the stat-ue. The Ford Company has been working to improve her finish and color. Thank you everyone for your patience with this project…it took much longer than we had planned. The HVAC project continues to unfold…with is-sues about the roof…piping…and positioning of the controls and supply lines. As more information comes in …I will try to pass on the word. We have been holding meetings with parents con-cerning the guidelines from our recent Diocesan Synod. The main thrust of the Synod was to focus our energies on growing as Disciples and Stewards of God’s gifts. Instead of just preparing our children to receive the sacraments…our energies now, aim at forming them as missionary disciples…with a deep personal relationship with Jesus.

Part of our meetings have emphasized our commit-ment as a parish family on being good stewards of all of God’s gifts…time, talent and treasure. Yes, there has been an effort to grow in our understanding and practice of making sure the children are able to attend Mass each Sunday. Another part of the effort is how we can grow in our understanding and practice of ‘tithing’. The book we shared with everyone at Easter was all about the spirit of sharing and giving… ‘Life’s Greatest Lesson’. When all of us pitch-in the job is much easier and all benefit from that spirit of generosity. There are so many lessons to learn in life. Each day at home with the children they face many of those is-sues and look to us for guidance. Jesus tries to teach his disciples with what we call the ‘Sermon of the Plain’. He lays out what it means to be a disciple and what is expected of each of us. What are the attitudes…the words…the actions that make up a Christian Disciple…is the sub-stance of Jesus’ discourse. Jesus begins with the fun-damental issue… ‘Love’. In the midst of the world (the Roman controlled world) Jesus…the disciples…and the people in the crowd…were living in…these words had to sound as a real challenge. Jesus taught… ‘Love your enemy…do good to those who hate you…bless those who curse you…do good to those who mistreat you’. These words and this teach-ing is a challenge to us…even today…especially to-day…when many try to demonize those of a different color…a different religion…a different language! There is more to sight than seeing. Well…the idea is that insight gives us greater depth of vision than just the external image. Jesus uses the example of some-one without insight leading someone else. That per-sonal depth of insight can allow us to offer others help. However, if we do not take the time to see our own lives and behavior…and mend our flaws…how can we pretend to lead someone else…that is what Jesus is saying to us…that we need to deal with our issues seriously…and sincerely offer help to others.

ZIGGY’S WISDOM: Read on if you wish to be a “grass roots Evangelizer.” ZIGGY’S TAKE: We shall call it: CATHOLICS COME HOME! As you may know, only 20% of Catholics attend weekly Mass on a regular ba-sis; that’s just 1 out of 5! If you and I have family or friends who are in this 80%, it’s up to us to “kindly” invite them back to our weekly Mass celebration. We can (must) do it. Plez try!

Church in Central and Eastern Europe: Restore and Build the Future

The 2019 collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe is slated for Ash Wednesday, March 6. Proceeds will fund projects in 28 countries to build the pastoral capacity of the Church and to rebuild and restore the faith in these countries. The funds are used to support seminaries, youth ministry, social service programs, pastoral centers, church construction and renovation, and Catholic communications pro-jects. The countries in Central and Eastern Europe have faced many years of hardship. They have been oppressed by czars, radical communism, horrendous crimes against humanity, and revolutionary, civil, and world wars. Years after the fall of communism, even though some are now Euro-pean Union citizens, the Catholics of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union still have great needs. Please be generous and help support the needs of our fellow members of the body of Christ in Central and Eastern Europe.

A powerful Lent opportunity is spending time with Je-sus during Eucharistic Adoration on Thursdays during Lent. (See Lent Schedule on next page.) Sign up sheets are on the altar railings or just drop in any-time…stay an hour, half hour or 10 minutes. You may be surprised with the results. Here are some reasons for wanting to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament: 1. You are greatly needed! “ The Church and the world have a great need of eucharistic adora-tion." (Pope John Paul II, Dominicae Cenae) 2. This is a personal invitation to you from Jesus. "Jesus waits for us in this sacrament of love." (Pope John Paul II, Dominicae Canae) 3. Jesus is counting on you because the Eucharist is the center of life. “ Every member of the Church must be vigilant in seeing that the sacrament of love shall be at the center of the life of the people of God so that through all the manifestations of worship due Him shall be given back ‘love for love’ and truly be-come the life of our souls." (Pope John Paul II, Re-deemer of Man)

My Lenten Choices

The choices we make each day form the patterns of our life. During Lent, we are called to grow closer to God by committing to spend more time with Him (Prayer); focusing on God rather than ourselves (Fasting); and nurturing gener-osity and gratitude by sharing our gifts with others (Almsgiving). The Lenten season is the perfect time to look at our prayer life and our relationship with Je-sus. What stands in our way of hearing God’s call and growing that personal re-lationship? We are providing some resources to assist your Lenten focus: • This weekend before Ash Wednesday, we will again have the opportunity

to take our Lenten Choices card to the altar as a sign of our commitment to spiritual growth. Lenten cards in the pews have suggested activities. Ask God what He is calling you to do this holy season. Fill out the bottom copy to take home to remind you of your choices or add to them.

• In each Bulletin during Lent, there will be a Lenten reflection on Prayer,

Fasting, or Almsgiving. • Review the Lenten Schedule in the Bulletin. There are many opportunities

to grow your spiritual life. • We especially encourage you to spend some time before the Blessed Sac-

rament during the Adoration times on Thursdays. • There will be special prayer cards at all the doors for you to write your

prayer request and drop it in the baskets at the doors. These will be col-lected each Friday so that they can be processed to the altar at the Offer-tory at all weekend Masses.
