MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear St. Agnes Parents,
Tomorrow we will celebrate Veteran’s Day with an All-School assembly at 10:00 a.m. We extend an invitation to Veterans to join us for this special remembrance. Springfield Catholic Schools choose to be in session so we may teach our students to honor and respect those who have served our country.
Sunday, November 11 the Holy Name Society Chili Supper will take place in the cafeteria and gym areas from Noon - 6:30 p.m. Thank you to our St. Agnes School families who have responded to the request for help with set-up, serving, and clean-up. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up to work, you can call the Parish or school office. Please come out and support this Parish event! The men in our Parish work very hard to provide this service to us. Their funds are used to assist with many Parish needs. They also support our eighth grade class by giving them a percentage toward their class trip on the tickets and raffle tickets the students sell.

The ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association) Music Festival was held last weekend in Macomb. Students arrived bright and early to rehearse all morning and part of the afternoon before performing an amazing concert. St. Agnes students who participated in this all day event included 8th graders Leeann Brown, Brennah Dillon, Anna Fitzgerald, Michael Kapshandy, and Emma Markwell; and, 6th graders Maria Bartletti, David Reichensperger, and Kayla Simon. We are grateful to our music teacher, Mrs. Terri DePatis, who prepared and accompanied them to this event.

Ms. Driscoll has been preparing our students for the arrival of our Scholastic Book Fair. Students will visit the Book Fair to purchase books at their regular library times next week. The schedule listing individual class visits is attached to this newsletter. The Book Fair will be open to parents and students during conferences on Monday, November 19 from 2:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 20 from 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. This is a great event at which to do some Christmas shopping!

Next Thursday, November 15, St. Agnes School will be gathering for our Mass of Thanksgiving at 8:15 a.m. Students are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to those who are in need during this holiday season. These items will be presented on the altar during Mass.
Thanksgiving School Mass
Next Friday, November 16th, our fifth grade class will join the other Catholic school fifth grade classes for a special service project at St. Joseph Home – helping to rake leaves on the grounds. The students will meet at Little Flower School for a special prayer service

and to prepare Thanksgiving cards/placemats for the St. Joseph Home residents. Fifth grade students are asked to bring a rake to school and hand lotion, candy bar or puzzle books for the residents. The students will depart school at 11:30 a.m. and return by 2:30 p.m.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, January 26, 2019 - this is the date of the St. Agnes School Auction Fundraiser. The event is being moved back to our school for an evening of fellowship and fun. There will be live and silent auction items on which to bid, food and drink, and a great time to be had by all. Each class will be making a Kentucky Derby-themed hat to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. These hats may be worn to our second fundraising event - The Derby Party - that will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Panther Creek Country Club. Tickets to the January 26th event are available for purchase online. Links to purchase tickets can be found on both the school and Parish websites. Please keep your eyes open for further announcements.
Auction Fundraiser
On Tuesday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m., our 8th grade girls’ basketball team will play their final regular season home game. We want to “Pack the House” with fans to cheer them on. Any Pre-K thru 8th grade student who wears a St. Agnes shirt will have free admission to the game. There will be a contest at half-time and hot dogs and chips will be available at the concession stand. Please come out and support our girls!!
Pack the House Night
The weeks just seem to get busier and busier!! That’s all for now until next week . . . . Blessings to you all, Mrs. Cunningham

Each parent/guardian is required to notify the school office by 8:30 a.m. if a child will be absent that day. Homework requests may be made at this time. Parents can always leave a message on the school answering machine if the secretary cannot be reached. The answering machine is checked regularly.
ABSENTEES
A call should be made each day the student is absent, unless it is known that the child will miss several consecutive days. If such is the case, the school can be informed with the first phone call of the consecutive absence and the reason. GRADE K Kindergarten is studying a Native American unit. We are learning how the Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn and other vegetables. We are also learning about Dream Catchers and dreams of the Native Americans. We are working on our Thanksgiving Play. Busy, busy days in Kindergarten! Congratulations to our Students of the Week: in Ka: Lizzie Fafoglia, and in Kb: Harper Alderman. MUSIC Congratulations to the members of the All-District Elementary Choir and the All-District Junior High Choir! 6th graders Maria Bartletti, David Reichensperger, and Kayla Simon, and 8th Graders Leeann Brown, Anna Fitzgerald, Brennah Dillon, Michael Kapshandy and Emma Markwell, all participated in the All-District Choir and Band Festival in Macomb this past Saturday. Thank you for representing our school! Mark your calendars for Dec. 13th for this year's Christmas Program. Our program will start at 6:30 with music from the Singing Aces. The second half of our evening will be presented by the 1st and 2nd graders, who have been working on their Christmas Musical, "Star of Wonder." You don't want to miss it! CHICK-FIL-A LUNCH The Eighth Grade class is offering a Chick-fil-A lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 20th (11:30am dismissal). Cost is $7.00 and includes a chicken sandwich, chips, cookie, and bottled water. Packed to take home or enjoy at Late Day! Please return the order form (attached to this newsletter) and money by Friday, Nov. 16. Cash or checks payable to St. Agnes Eighth Grade. Dear St. Agnes Parents: Our Scholastic Book Fair will begin next Tuesday, November 13, and will continue through Tuesday, November 20. If you find you have the time and would like to help with this endeavor, please contact me at school this week through the school office or by email at [email protected] to make arrangements. Help will be needed to maintain the books after classes have come through and/or assist students in their selections (especially the younger students). The Fair will be open during the school day and will be available until 2:30pm (approximately). Students will come in to look over the books during their regular Library time. They can then come back in at another time or with their parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences to make purchases. Thank you for your willingness to volunteer in the Library this year!
