Dear Parishioners, This last week, I received this statement from our Music Director, Greg Koppenhaver:

I would like to thank Greg for his service and dedication to our community of faith. His musical talent is exceptional and he will be missed by all. In the interim period, our Church has hired Chris Roque to take the responsibilities of Music Director on a transitional basis. Chris is very familiar to all of us, and he brings an enthusiasm for the spirit of the liturgy and praise of the Lord through our music and our singing. Happy Good Shepherd Sunday! Devotedly yours, Fr. Gabe

This Week: Saturday, April 25th/Sunday, April 26th Fourth Sunday of Easter

To Receive Holy Communion (For those who are sick, hospitalized, or home bound). Please call Gloria Bowen, Eucharistic Minister to the sick at 310-670-5971.

Reflections on Today’s Readings: FOCUS: Jesus is the Good Shepherd who guides us on the path of life. We may not connect immediately with the central image of our Gospel today - the Shepherd with His sheep. Perhaps we do not see ourselves as docile sheep. But this image may become more understandable if we truly embrace Jesus as the Good Shepherd, and allow Him to guide us on the path to eternal life. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, Peter reminds us that there is no salvation except through Jesus. In our second reading and in the Gospel, we are reminded of two important truths of our faith - that we are the children of God an that Jesus is the Good Shepherd.

Please pray for those who have died, especially: Marian Curran (mother of Joe Curran), Mary Louise Llorens, Oscar Nagy, Armida Deck, & Mariano Llosa, that they may rest in peace

THE GOOD SHEPHERD This Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally referred to as “Good Shepherd Sunday.” Today we listen to the words of the Lord as he refers to himself as the “good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep.” It is sometimes so difficult for us to grasp the reality that anyone would lay down his or her own life for the sake of someone else. This is especially true in a society that places high value on power and personal advancement, often at the cost of “trampling” on other people in order to climb the ladder. Today’s scriptures point to the one we are called to emulate—the one who lays down his life for his sheep. Today’s scriptures challenge us to discover ways to bring life to those around us—to build up rather than to tear down. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

FACT OF LIFE Good Shepherd Shelter

Founded in 1984, Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children began as an emergency shelter and drop-in center for women living on the streets. In response to the increasing number of homeless women in Downtown Los Angeles, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles Inc. appointed Sr. Julia Mary Farley to spearhead the program. Over the next eight years, Good Shepherd Center expanded its services to include the children of homeless women, establishing a transitional residence serving nine families in an old craftsman house. Today, Good Shepherd Center serves approximately 1,000 homeless women and children annually, and houses up to 93 women and 45 children each night. Through their comprehensive programs, they help homeless women every step of the way, giving them the tools and support they need to achieve self-sufficient lives. Please read more about this life changing Center and its impact on the lives of homeless families. Their Facebook Page is: http://www.facebook.com/gschomeless

Fourth Sunday of Easter, April 26th, This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. John 10:17-18

When you care about your friends, you’ll be there for them when they need you. You’ll do everything you can, even at great cost to yourself. And your friends will do the same for you. Jesus called us His friends, and He saw that we need help in learning God’s way to love. So He showed us how to love as He does, but He was crucified for what He said and did. Jesus saw the danger, but He willingly gave His life for our sake. Thank You, Lord, for Your unending care!!! ON WEALTH: Nothing is more fallacious than wealth. It is

a hostile comrade, a domestic enemy. —St. John Chrysostom

THE GLORY OF GOD: The glory of God is humanity fully alive. —St. Irenaeus
