From The Desk of Msgr. Matthew Mitas:

CONTINUED

REMEMBER THAT MAY IS THE MONTH OF OUR LADY! GRADUATION This Thursday will see the graduation of our 8th graders from our parish school. Since this is the 50th anniversary year of our school, that makes it very special. Our sincerest congratulations to them all! Concurrently, our school year officially ends the same day.

PENTECOST You’ll notice that the awe-inspiring decorations for Pentecost are still up. They will continue to be up until after Corpus Christi because, frankly, they’re just too beautiful not to leave them up. Our thanks to Don Krause and his crew of Matt Adams and the Dobbs family for fabricating and installing them!

BLEST ART Representatives from the Holy Land will visit our parish on the weekend of May 28/29 to sell their beautifully carved olive wood religious articles. They have been here before, usually coming to our par-ish every year-and-a-half or so, and I’m sure most of you remember them. They are victims of persecu-tion from ISIS/ISIL and this is just about the only way they are able to support themselves. Let us wel-come them when they come. And on the same weekend…

…THE ANNUAL FLORISSANT CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION What began 150 or so years ago had been revived and perpetuated in our time, namely, the great Eucharistic Procession on the feast dedicated to the mystery of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. It has become our heritage as citizens of the proud and historic city of Florissant. It starts at 1:30PM in Sacred Heart church on May 29. Special invitation is given to our first communi-cants to have pride of place in the procession, wearing their First Communion apparel.

NEW SERVERS I am proud to announce and introduce to you four new altar servers from our 4th grade class. They are: Aaron FENNER, Jahnea GATES, Ben BURKE, and Thomas ANDERSON. They have practiced and learned the art of altar serving most assiduously and will start serving at the 8:00AM Masses this week. Our congratulations and thanks to them!

NEW WEB SITE I’m also pleased to announce that our parish has a new webmaster for the parish website, young Matt Adams of our parish (not to be confused with the Cardinals’ first baseman), who, in addition to his being a world-class church decorator, is also a crackerjack computer whiz. He is expanding our site by filling it with all kinds of photos of parish events and a lot of new information, while, at the same time, making it more user-friendly. As of this writing, it’s not 100% up to speed, but wait for it…it’ll knock your socks off!

LOURDES - THE “NON-VIRTUAL” TOUR Quite a few people have mentioned to me that they would like to go on a pilgrimage to Lourdes (with stops in other Catholic shrine areas such as Fatima, Rome & Assisi). I’m trying to assess the level of everyone’s willingness and availability, so I’m asking everyone who’s thinking about going to fill out the green section on the following page and get it back to me as soon as possible (you don’t have to be a parishioner of St. Angela’s to go):

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION Development of the Unborn Baby - 9th month

Congratulation! Your spiritually adopted baby is born this month. She is around 7 ½ pounds and 20 inches long. However her birth was not the beginning of her life. Her life began nine months ago when each parent contributed the genetic materials to form this unique human being-- in-cluding the instructions for her hair and eye col-or, facial features, health, talents, intelligence and personality. At that miraculous moment she also received her soul from God making her an immortal being—God’s plan for her is to live her life on earth, then join Him in her heavenly home forever. Never before in history, nor ever again, will anyone exist who is just like your spiritually adopted baby. Your prayers have been invalua-ble for this baby and her mother. You will sure-ly meet each other in heaven.

CONGRATULATIONS… …to our newly installed lay ministers, Don & Donna Krause and Mike & Linda McManus. They are certainly no strangers to our parish, having been intimately involved with its operations and workings for many years. But now they have completed a three-year course of preparation to serve our parish in even more effective ways, and were installed at a special Mass at the Cathedral last Saturday. Our congratula-tions and thanks to them for this great undertaking!

CATECHISM CLASS My catechism class will have its last session before taking a summer break on Tuesday, May 31, in-stead of the usual first Tuesday of June. Everybody’s welcome; at 7:20PM in the parish meeting room (located next to my office).

One of the things that our school community does fantastically well is service. We raise mon-ey for kids with cancer, Cardinal Glennon Hos-pital, we write letters to the shut-ins of our par-ish, food drives for St. Vincent de Paul, cards for kids at Cardinal Glennon and cards for all the patients at SLU Hospital. It is very important for students to know and understand that we should give in the spirit of Christ. It helps the students develop empathy toward others. Our Student Council initiates these events. The policy is if we do something fun, we must also do some ser-vice for others!

Our eighth graders enjoyed a day of retreat this week. They were challenged to think about how decisions now affect their life next year. This is not an easy thing for teenagers to understand. They live more for the moment and immediate gratification.

We will all know if it was a "rain day" or "Field Day" on Friday. I will let you know next week! God is Good!

Summertime is “PIZZA TIME”

The Men’s Club will be taking orders for pizzas and desserts after the Masses this weekend and June 4-5. Pick-up will be Saturday, June 18, in the lunch room from 12:00 noon – 2:00pm. The profits from the sale will go to support the Men’s Club Charitable endeavors.

Parishioners, Students, Parents, Teachers, First Communicants, Those Recently Baptized or Confirmed, Friends, Neighbors… ALL ARE WELCOME to participate and witness this an-cient tradition of our faith as we celebrate the unity of our schools and parishes, ALIVE in CHRIST in North County.

The Eucharistic Procession will begin at Sacred Heart Church and pass through the streets of Florissant until it reaches the Old St. Ferdinand Shrine. Parking at Sacred Heart Church, 751 N. Jefferson St.

Refreshments and fellowship will follow at the Knights of Columbus Grounds and Old St. Fer-dinand Shrine. Buses to return to Sacred Heart for those who need them.

Everyone is invited to donate a non-perishable food item that may be dropped off at the begin-ning of the procession at Sacred Heart for T.E.A.M.

RSVP to Cara, at 314-537-3174. Or, just show up - it's not absolutely essential that we have RSVPs, it just gives organizers a guide for refreshments/supplies.

Annual Breast Cancer Healing Mass Many people have expressed that they are not com-fortable supporting the Komen Race for the Cure due to its policy to offer financial support to abortion providers, its denial of research showing a possible link between abortion and breast cancer, and its en-dorsement of embryonic stem cell research. As an alternative, the Archdiocese offers this Healing Mass for anyone who has had breast cancer, has known someone who has had it, or anyone who wishes to pray for the peace and healing of all. It will be on Saturday June 11, 2016 at 9:30am at Immaculata Church. Fr. Jack Siefert will be the celebrant. Re-ception will follow.

EVERYONE IS INVITED!

PLEASE JOIN US!

Catechism Class - May 31st

The last class, before summer break is on Tues-day, May 31st, instead of the usual first Tuesday of June. Everyone is welcome! Catechism class is at 7:20 pm in the parish meeting room.
