28TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Today's Gospel presents us with this encounter between Jesus and ten lepers. We know that leprosy it is a terrible disease even today, that forced these people to live outside the village as outcasts so they would not infect others. But those lepers who were in so much need for healing; calling and crying out for help and health were healed not in the instance of meeting with Jesus, but as they were on the way, doing what Jesus asked them to do. There is a need to hear and to do what Jesus advices to do. Jesus sends them to the priests, to the temple, where God gives healing and peace and shows mercy, as they were calling " Jesus, Master! Have pity on us. " God shows pity and has mercy on us as we keep showing ourselves to God and to the priests in the temple. What a great consolation for those who are sick, those who are in need, those who cry to God for help. But how come that only one out of the ten cured, came back glorifying God ??? As Jesus asked, "where are the other nine?" Only the foreigner came to give thanks??? Foreigner was the one whose faith was not perfect, he was somewhat ignorant and not complete. But he shows humility and human integrity by his return to give thanks to his healer. And Jesus praises his faith and promises him salvation " Stand up and go; your faith has saved you." It is a great indica-tion for us to act, to pray, to thank and glorify God in our daily lives.

As we look to Saint Paul, in the second reading we hear his statement about Christ's faithfulness as he says: "This saying is trustworthy: If we have died with him we shall also live with him; as we persevere we shall also reign with him. But if we deny him he will deny us. If we are unfaithful he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself."

God is always is faithful and there are saints in all times that represent for us that one returning foreigner that is giving praise to God with their lives. A month ago we had celebrated the feast of Saint Mother Teresa, this week we have celebrated feasts of Saint Francis on the October 4th, Saint Faustina on the 5th, Saint Bruno on the 6th, and Our Lady of the Rosary on the October 7th. These are all so powerful witnesses to the glory of God, that never failed to see the beauty of God in all creatures and creation as St. Francis who was born in 1181. Than St. Faustina whom the Lord inspired to pray for the whole world; asking God for mercy, she was born in 1905. Christ wanted her to be the Secretary of Divine Mercy helping him to reach out to all souls and all human hearts that long for God. She teaches us to pray for God's Mercy in different ways by honoring Christ in his Risen Divine Mercy image, by celebrating Mercy Sunday, by praying the chaplet of Divine Mercy, by praying at the Hour of Mercy, and by doing the works of mercy. Saint Bruno born in 1030 is a founder of the Carthusian Order of Monks, with one of the monasteries founded in Vermont in the north of USA. That order is a contemplative order, that did not changed much in its almost 1000 years of history, in continuous prayer and penance done behind the walls of the monastic enclosure. Those saints are the wit-nesses to the goodness of God, to the Gospel Good News of Christ, to the Mercy of God. Their witnesses did not end with their life, their singing did not cease over the centuries. In them we can realize how recognition of god's gifts continue in the life of those who imitate those saints for centuries. This is the power of gratitude, the power of recognition of what God has done for them and for the whole world and for every person.

So where are we in that song of gratitude??? Are we joining those songs of the saints, or are we going to be among those nine, who forgot to come back to give thanks to Christ ??? Lets sing with St. Francis, the Canticle of the Sun.

Fr. Stan

Canticle of Sun St. Francis of Assisi

Most High, all powerful, good Lord, Yours are the prais-es, the glory, the honor, and all blessing. To You alone, Most High, do they belong, and no man is worthy to mention Your name. Be praised, my Lord, through all your creatures, especial-ly through my lord Brother Sun, who brings the day; and you give light through him. And he is beautiful and radi-ant in all his splendor! Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness. Praise be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars, in heaven you formed them clear and precious and beautiful. Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind, and through the air, cloudy and serene, and every kind of weather through which You give sustenance to Your creatures. Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water, which is very useful and humble and precious and chaste. Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom you light the night and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong. Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Mother Earth, who sustains us and governs us and who produces varied fruits with colored flowers and herbs. Praised be You, my Lord, through those who give pardon for Your love, and bear infirmity and tribulation. Blessed are those who endure in peace for by You, Most High, they shall be crowned. Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Bodily Death, from whom no living man can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin. Blessed are those whom death will find in Your most holy willl, for the second death shall do them no harm. Praise and bless my Lord, and give Him thanks and serve Him with great humility.

Thank you to all who generously donate to our food pantry. In September, we assisted 113 families (9 new families).

Within those 113 families, there were 151 children, 153 adults and 22 seniors.

The “Back to School” drive was very successful and 112 children were given the necessary school supplies to start off their new school year. However, we must now focus on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The outreach will be helping families with extra food for Thanksgiving. Our outreach families are already coming in requesting Thanksgiving food. Our clients must register in advance for Thanksgiving food. If anyone would like to

sponsor a family for Thanksgiving, we would be extremely grateful for your help. The attached Thanksgiving Basket Sponsor form can be dropped off at the outreach office or St. Anne’s Pastoral Center. Please call our outreach office if

you have any questions (631-273-8113 ext.229). Our Thanksgiving food distribution days will be Monday November 21st and

Tuesday November 22nd. The most needed items for our pantry this month are: cereal, soup, rice,

jelly and juices. We are always in need of items that our clients cannot purchase with their food

stamps. Toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, soap, laundry detergent, sham-poo, conditioner, deodorant, disposable razors, body wash, disposable diapers (size 3, 4 & 5), travel size toiletries and baby wipes are among those non-food

items. Grocery store and Target gift cards (any amount) are always appreciated. Now that the weather is getting cooler, we are also requesting clean, gently used jackets for

adults and children. Thank you for caring for the poor in your parish community. Janet Lambert, Coordinator

to be missionary and to help the Missions. As Catholics around the world, here at home and in the Missions, gather at the Eucharistic table, let us pray for the Church’s worldwide mission and offer financial help

through the Propagation of the Faith for more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.

Thank you for your generosity.

Many thanks to our Music Director, Sue Lindsay, who wrote a grant for us to receive $4,400 dollars to purchase 400 new Spanish Music Books. Please take good care of the books and remember they are the property of St. Anne’s , they are not to be removed from the church , they are to remain in the pews.
