Clinton’s message to our students was prey simple – cover up! Use the slip, slop, slap, seek, slide slogan and message to develop safe sun protecon behaviours. Clinton knows the challenges of living with melanoma and is a living example of surviving skin cancer having being diagnosed at age 22. He has had countless operaons and had to make life changing adjustments to manage the cancer but he would agree, he is one of the lucky ones, as although he came close, the disease did not kill him. With summer approaching we need to be vigilant towards our sun protecon habits. Clinton also had a message to our staff and the adults within our community, and that is: ‘if you are over 15, when did you last have your skin check. It may just save your life.’ SPELLATHON: Congratulaons to Imogen Italiano and Chelsea Oxford for being crowned the 2018 St Anne’s Spellathon Champions. It was a great compeon hotly contested by some very talented spellers. Represenng team Dynamic Duo they challenged Highpowered Combos (Marley Visser and Bridget Sawyer), Dangerous Duet (Alain Rodas and Lilli Greay) and The Lightning Pair (Julian Ramos and Sierra Parravicini) to win by only one point. Dear Parents, Friends and Students of St Anne’s,

NO FRY DAY: It was a pleasure to have Clinton Heal from Melanoma Western Australia visit our school last week. Clinton was presented with a cheque for $250 that his Association will use towards melanoma research and understanding. This donation all came about as a result of our school supporting this appeal, with the right of students to wear their own style of hat for a day, simply for a gold coin donation.

Clinton’s message to our students was pretty simple – cover up! Use the slip, slop, slap, seek, slide slogan and message to develop safe sun protection behaviours. Clinton knows the challenges of living with melanoma and is a living example of surviving skin cancer having being diagnosed at age 22. He has had countless operations and had to make life changing adjustments to manage the cancer but he would agree, he is one of the lucky ones, as although he came close, the disease did not kill him. With summer approaching we need to be vigilant towards our sun protection habits. Clinton also had a message to our staff and the adults within our community, and that is: ‘if you are over 15, when did you last have your skin check. It may just save your life.’

SPELLATHON: Congratulations to Imogen Italiano and Chelsea Oxford for being crowned the 2018 St Anne’s Spellathon Champions. It was a great competition hotly contested by some very talented spellers. Representing team Dynamic Duo they challenged Highpowered Combos (Marley Visser and Bridget Sawyer), Dangerous Duet (Alain Rodas and Lilli Greay) and The Lightning Pair (Julian Ramos and Sierra Parravicini) to win by only one point.

Thankyou to Miss Carruthers for the magnificent organisation of the competition and Miss Martelli for judging. Also, an extra special ‘well done’ to our magnificent game show hostess on the day, Layla Pierce.

GRANDPARENTS DAY MASS: The Grandparent’s days Mass and Morning tea was held last week with another wonderful turnout of grandparents and caregivers coming to school to celebrate with their grandchildren. The church was packed and Father Tony was impressed with the size of the congregation in attendance. Thankyou to the staff for cooking and preparing morning tea for our families and an extra special thanks to Mrs Zarzycki’s Mum, Mrs Alfirevich, for the many, many scones, slices, mini pizzas and sausage rolls she made.

MJR ASSEMBLY: I was away at the recent MJR assembly but understand the message of ‘forgiveness ‘was the theme for the presentation. Thankyou to Year Three and Mrs Fimmano for celebrating your gifts with us and bringing the message of peace to the forefront of our thinking. Well done also to Our ‘Spirit of Jesus’ winners for this month. A visit to the school website under ‘Our Classes ‘ recognises all the wonderful things these students received their award for.

REMEMBRANCE DAY: Some parents may have noticed the banner that had been placed up at the War Memorial for the Community Remembrance Day Service. It was done as a means to show recognition and respect from our students to the many men and women who served for our country in times of war. Thankyou to Mrs Vanessa Fimmano, Ms Mimma Gangemi and the senior students for preparing this tribute.

YEAR SIX PASTA DAY: I had a meeting last Monday and could not attend the Year Six pasta day. Upon my return to school though, presented on my desk, I was welcomed by a generous and yummy serving of pasta and meatballs, plus a bread roll…all hand made by the Year Six students and coordinated by Signora Sgambelluri. This is a brilliant initiative and one I know the students really enjoyed. A great culmination of their learning about the Italian culture over their primary school education in the Italian program. Thankyou so much to Signora and the great band of parent helpers that supported her on the day.

MAY GIBBS EVENT: Today the Kindergarten and Pre Primary students had a special visit to Stirling Cottage to celebrate the 100th Birthday of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. The students learned about the history behind May Gibbs’ time spent living at the Stirling Cottage in late 1800’s where she lived for a brief time with her family. Her books were inspired by observing the surroundings of the Harvey bush area. It was also a great opportunity to promote our school.

CARITAS PD: The staff participated in a day coordinated by Anita Finneran from Caritas Australia looking at the principles behind Catholic Social Teachings. It was a wonderful day that allowed for reflection and the need to develop more of an awareness of these principles in our lives. The message of Catholic Social Teachings align so well with our MJR program. They can be complex but in its simplest form the notion of ‘giving of yourself and seeing the face of Christ’ in all that you do, and all that you meet is a great take away attitude.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Just a reminder the Annual General Meeting will be held next Wednesday 21st November in Mercy Hall, starting at 6pm. Nomination forms for both the P and F and the Board are attached.

ARE YOU LEAVING ST ANNES: If any families are leaving St Anne’s, notification of this will need to be given in writing to the school office.

CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Christian Huey (Year 6) who has made it in to the final squad for state selection in the Under 12’s Rugby Union team. This is a huge achievement as the initial trials started with a field of well over 200 players. The final team will be announced in December .

MAKING JESUS REAL The Spirit of Jesus continues to be a ‘theme’ celebrated within our school. Please take note of the ‘Making Jesus Real tip of the week.’ By changing our behaviours and attitudes to live more like Jesus we can definitely make a difference to other individual’s circumstances, as well as our own. ‘

Have a safe and happy week
