not meet this we have to pay it out of our general

fund.

We currently 85% there ($10980.00.00) from

not yet given could donate what they can (no do-

nation is too small!) We could meet our goal and

nated. There are envelopes on the table in back

Thanks to everyone for their generosity. We still

have a ways to go. Please think serious about your

donation. CSA keeps many programs afloat and

40 Cans for Lent

The Knights of Columbus 499 are hoping to collect

cans of food for the Rural Care & Share Food Shelf

during Lent as in previous years. We would encour-

age each family to donate 40 cans of food throughout

Lent if it is affordable for them.

St. Anthony Lake Nebagamon Pews for Sale

As we get closer to moving into our new church we need to

empty the old items from the church.

The committee has received permission from Fr.

Andrew to sell the old pews. Before offering the

entire lot to outside vendors we have decided to

make them available to our parishioners first.

The gentleman we are dealing with for our new

pews assessed the value of our pews between $300

and $500 each. The value was given because of

their age (around 100 years old) and the architec-

ture of the pew ends, which he indicated would be

worth that much alone. The buyer will be respon-

sible for removal of the pews.

The board will give parishioners two weeks to de-

cide if they would like to buy a pew or pews in

remembrance of our church’s history. After the

two weeks have passed, we will offer the balance

to the companies that have shown an interest in

acquiring them.

We also have some beautiful windows that need

to be saved. These windows were donated by

individual families and the board would like them

to go to these families. If you are a member of the

family with their name on the plaque, you may

St Roch or Rocco was a Catholic Saint, a confes-

sor whose death is commemorated on 16 August ;

he is specially invoked against the plague.

Prayer to St. Roch O most merciful God, who through an Angel prom-

ised St. Roch, that whoever should invoke his Name,

should be preserved from pestilence and contagious

diseases, grant that through his intercession and the

intercession of Mary, our mother, we may be pre-

served from all dangers both of soul and body,

through Jesus Christ. St. Roch ~ pray for us.

I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert,

but they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven so

that one may eat it and not die." –John 6:48–50

In the Book of Exodus, the Israelites had been freed from slavery

in Egypt and were traveling through the desert to get to the land

that God had promised them. When they complained that there

was no food to eat, God made manna appear. Manna was a bread-

like substance that continued to appear for the whole forty years

that the Israelites wandered in the desert. As Catholics, we believe

that this manna foreshadowed the Eucharist. Just as God gave the

Israelites physical food, he gives us spiritual food in the Eucharist.

And although we eat physical food and still die, Jesus tells us that

the spiritual food of the Eucharist will make us live forever. The

bread, which is the Body of Christ, feeds our souls in such a way

as to prepare us for eternal life—if we follow the commandments

and teachings of our Church. If we stay in God’s friendship, espe-

cially through the grace we receive in the Eucharist, we will enter

the eternal life of Heaven that Jesus promises to us.

WEEKLY MEDITATION

Do you ever wonder just how great God's love really is? How amazing? How awesome? I keep thinking about different analogies that show the reality of divine love when compared to human understanding.

For example: If my entire awareness of God's love could be viewed, it would be like a drop of water - compared to the Pacific Ocean of God's love. Or a grain of sand - com-pared to the Sahara Desert. Or a single blade of grass - compared to the Midwest Prairie.

The fact is, there is no comparison that can truly show the height, depth, power, or magnitude of the love of God. No analogy, no image, no description can do it justice...yet we can use our limited language to give us a hint:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:16-17)

This is God's demonstration of love. Look at a Cross; listen to the Stations; read the Passion. The love of God is not words or clever thoughts. The love of God is manifested through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - out of love for us.

The question is - Do we believe it? Do we accept in our hearts that this love is for us? Do we live with the convic-tion that God values us, cherishes us, treasures us, for-gives us, and loves us with this sort of intensity?

If we do believe, then our lives are forever changed. If we receive these words and open our hearts, then God will come and transform us. The Lord's power is that great; once we say "Yes" to Christ we begin a process that will draw us steadily closer to God and one another.

We have heard these words so often that we can take them for granted. We can overlook their meaning and miss the point. Lent gives us time to search into our hearts and rec-ognize this love for what it is - God's way of calling us home.

May we be ready to respond!

Fr. Andrew

Question for Children: Who is one person in your life who supports your faith and helps it to grow?

Question for Youth: The Gospel speaks of following God as coming toward the light. How can you move towards the light in your own life? What is the darkness that needs Je-sus’ healing in your life?

Question for Adults: When is it difficult for you to believe?

What particular line in this reading helps your faith?

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

COVID 19 CHANGES

Over the past year our Society has continued to serve those in need, but in new ways. Each month we receive about 120 calls for assistance as we did a year ago. In-stead of meeting people in their homes or face to face in the community - two of our members meet with people in visit conference calls. It is during these calls that we learn about their needs, offer assistance and pray with them. It has been nearly a year since we have been unable to meet with people at the Catholic Charities Building or to accept goods donated there. If you have donations, feel free to contact us. RCIA

Adults are drawn to the Catholic Church for many reasons and in many ways. They come to the Church with varying levels of knowledge and understanding but the one con-stant is that each has many questions. RCIA – the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - is the process that allows adults to explore Catholicism, increase their understanding and get answers to their questions in an environment that is welcoming and responsive.

All RCIA meetings will be held virtually. If you are inter-ested in participating – or know someone who is – please contact Kathy Drinkwine at [email protected] or at 715 394 3005. If there is no answer, please be sure to leave a message.
