Prayer of the Week:

Lenten Group: Lent is fast approaching! This year‘s program called – Listening to the Wisdom of the Desert will commence on Monday, February 12. It is a modern Lenten program for group or personal study. The theme is taken from the first Sunday Gospel of Lent, Jesus’ 40 days in the desert. Through six weeks this theme is explored using prayer, biblical reflection and modern stories. We are asked: what is the desert in our own lives? What can we learn from it? Fr Elio Capra’s popular explanation of the Easter Ceremonies adds a major benefit to this unique Lenten study booklet. Readers have a clear and easy-to-understand explanation of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil. Participants can choose from a wealth of material for personal or group reflection. This program can be completed with a group or in your own home, there are no extra videos or CD’s, so you choose how you would like to participate. Cost of book will be $10. A copy of the book is available in the foyer for you to take a look. Please place you name on list in foyer, advising if you wish to join a group. There will be 2 meeting times in the Parish Office – Tuesday evenings at 6pm & Wednesday mornings at 10.15am & on Monday mornings at 11am in the church. Please also indicate if you might be willing to lead/host group. Books are now available from Office.

Mass in the Maronite Rite: Father Fadi Salame will be celebrating Mass in the Maronite Rite this Sunday 4th February at 11.00am

here at St Anthony’s. A special invitation is extended to any families from Lebanon, Iraq or Syria to attend. Other parishioners are welcome to attend this Mass. Those attending are invited to share finger food in the Parish Community Centre after Mass. Please note we will not be having a sit down lunch this time. Please bring a plate of finger food to share for lunch. Please contact Gabrielle Saide on 4632 4778 (a.h.) if you require transport.

Planned Giving Program: If you would like to support our Parish financially, this may be done by Direct Debit, or via our weekly envelope system.

For further information, please contact the Parish Office. All contributions are gratefully accepted.

Give us through the coming year quietness of mind. Teach us to be patient and always to be kind.

And show us that in quietness we can feel Your presence near. Filling us with joy and peace throughout the coming year.

“Lighting Pathways for life….”

DATE CLAIMER 24th – 25th February – Parish Reflection Weekend Two years ago Fr Richard Leonard spent time with us as a Parish

Community guiding us to reflect on aspects of our lives in the light of our faith. Those who took part were enlivened by the sessions and by Richard’s sharing of his own life story. This year we have invited Brother Damien Price to lead us in our days together. Damien Price is a Christian Brother of the Oceania Province. He has worked in schools throughout Queensland for over 35 years. He travels extensively throughout Australia delivering workshops on Youth Spirituality. His Doctorate looked at the meaning of making young adults engaged, as they worked with homeless people. While Damien was born in Pittsworth, he spent most of his youth in Proserpine in North Queensland. Damien is passionate about the power of youth to change our world, the power of story and the possibilities we all share in ‘being the change we want to see in the world!’ Dates and times for Damien Price’s Program Friday 23rd February 7- 9pm “Nurturing boys “ followed by a cuppa. (Church) Saturday 24th February 9am - 12.30 pm ‘Our Beer Garden God’ – A spirituality for the everyday.

3.30 - 5.30pm “The healing power of Forgiveness.” (Starting with a cuppa) Vigil Mass 6.00pm

Sunday 25th February Eucharist 8.30am 9.30am morning tea. 10-11.30am “When in doubt tell a story”

I extend a special St Anthony’s welcome to all new families who have joined us and especially our 47 adorable new preppies who are discovering what full time schooling is all about! We are very fortunate at St Anthony’s to have a very dedicated and professional staff who have already been busy at work for several weeks, preparing for the new school year. Please make the time to meet your child’s new teacher, especially if you don’t already know them. Creating a positive educational experience is the result of developing a partnership between parents and teachers, so maintaining regular and open communication between home and school is vitally important. Re-member, both teachers and parents want what is best for your child. If you have any concerns, please contact your child’s teacher immediately. If there is no communication from home, teachers are often unaware that a problem exists and the problem may then compound itself. Never be reluctant to speak to your child’s teacher, as you are the person who knows your child best. Unless the matter is urgent, first thing in the morning is often not a good time to speak with teachers as they are busy preparing for the day’s lessons. It would be appreciated if you could make an appointment to speak with the teacher at a time that is mutually convenient and they are able to give you their full attention. Naturally, if you are not satisfied with the response you receive from your child’s teacher, please feel free to contact me at any time via phone call, email [email protected] or face to face. With the start of a new school year, it is vitally important for students and parents to be fully prepared. Getting off on the right foot is a pre-requisite for ongoing success. This includes having all the booklist and correct uniform items. Another essential element of being prepared is being at school each day on time. Not only does your child miss important information and instruction, late comers disrupt routine and interrupt teaching. For a productive start to each day, please ensure your child is at school between 8.15 and 8.30. I urge all families to take the time to read the newsletter each fortnight and download our St Anthony’s SkoolBag app to keep abreast of happenings. Please ensure your contact details are current in the office. Parents must be able to be contacted at all times. In 2018, parent and family engagement will continue to be a focus. This year, we are asking all families to commit to ‘Just One Thing’. Our P and F play a vital role within our school and already have some exciting events in the pipeline, such as the welcome BBQ, Discos, Ladies Night, Fun Run, Food at the Athletics Carnival, Trivia Night, Mango Drive, Father’s Day Breakfast and Christmas Carols. These events will be spread throughout the year. Of course such events don’t ‘just happen’ and so we will be asking families to sign up for just one event assist at. This may be behind the scenes or during the event organisation. This way we all share responsibility and the workload is also shared so everyone can enjoy these events. Helping can be a very rewarding experience, lots of fun and a great way to connect with new people! Until next fortnight, God bless, Louise Pfingst

APRE News Next Friday, 9 February, our Year 6 students will be invested as school student leaders for 2018. Their theme for their year of leadership is ‘building a community of love’. We offer them our prayers as we begin our new school year. Let us pray… Gracious God of love, we pray for each other and for those who have been entrusted to our care. During the coming year may we strive together to give of our best and be our best, so that the love with which you surround us may be a living reality in our community. We make this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen. Parish Family Mass Our first Parish Family Mass for the year will take place this Sunday, 4 February at 8.30am in the church. Year 5/6AC and Year 1EG will help us in our celebrating. Families with children in these 2 classes are asked to return their notes suggesting which jobs they would like to help out with. Mrs Anne-Maree Spalding will provide the music with her choir. All children are welcome to join the Family Mass choir. All families from our school community are warmly invited to celebrate with us.
