REFLECTIONS

“Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” ***** For this I am most grateful: For the gift of Jesus and His Church. For the gift of Holy Week in which the Church contemplates and celebrates the mystery of the for-giveness of sins. We had our Penance Vigil on Tuesday. For Holy Thursday’s celebration of the gift of the Eucharist in which Jesus incorporates us into Himself. He gives us His body and His blood for nourishment of our body and soul. For Good Friday’s reminder of the enormous price Jesus paid to ransom us from death’s apparent hope-lessness . He stamped on our souls the reason for our ex-istence. He gives us His Spirit so that we can grow in our trust in His promises of Eternal Life. He gives us His Spirit so that we can grow in our ability to give of our-selves to His brothers and sisters and begin to grasp His love for us. For Holy Saturday and its subtle and somber re-minder of Jesus’ separation from the Father in ‘Sheol’ , the capstone of his redemptive suffering. For Easter - the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead. “God’s most marvelous work” [St. Augustine] Seeing Jesus made Mary Magdalene remarkably happy. Seeing Jesus made Peter and the Apostles pillars of faith and true Christians - witnesses to and of the Risen Lord! For St. Bede Parish and all of you who shared in our celebration of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrec-tion. For Sr. Mary Elizabeth’s tireless concern for all the details. For Deacon Rick’s diaconal service in the litur-gies. For Jennifer Gorske, Gerard Rohlf, Carla La Rocca DiDonato and our tremendous Choir, our Servers, Lec-tors, Eucharistic Ministers and our Ushers. Thank you God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

SECOND SUNDAY of EASTER or DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY: Every year we celebrate Easter for seven weeks – a “week of weeks”- because we need all this time to appreciate all the new things that God is doing in our lives. So on this Second Sunday of Easter, which the Church has also designated as the Sunday of Divine Mer-cy, we focus on the early church and how those disciples received and spread the Good News of God’s merciful love. May we learn much from them as we pray together today.

NEW PARISHIONERS: After 8 months of intense learning about the Catholic Faith, three new members joined the St. Bede community at the Easter Vigil - Sadegh Nickdaz, grandfather of 4th grader, James Bierly, Rodney Johnson, father of 3rd grader, Jacob Johnson and Christie Ryan, mother of Xander McCollum, Kindergar-ten. We welcome them not only into our parish but into full communion of the Catholic Church. Congratulations to them as they continue their faith journey.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jacob Johnson, a new stu-dent at St. Bede this year, who made his First Commun-ion at the Easter Vigil. Jacob was privileged to receive his First Communion with his Dad, Rodney, who came into full communion and was also confirmed.

EASTER ENVIRONMENT: For 6 weeks, the beauty of the Church has been a “bare beauty” focusing only on the main altar and the crucifix. Last Sunday, that bareness was transformed into a garden of beautiful lilies and col-orful flowers thanks to Annie Havern and helpers. Thanks also, to Beth Lynch, who arranged for the planters outside the front doors to be a welcoming site for parishioners and friends coming to St. Bede. And certainly, no one can deny that our resident gardener, Kay Boyle, cane and all, keeps ALL the parish grounds in good condition. She also gets help from Chuck and Judy Lightener and Jerry Olsavsky. Kay would welcome anyone who wants to join the “Parish Garden Club”. There is something for every-one to do!

SPRING CLEANING DAY: (April 8) It was a very small crew of 5 people who changed the Missalettes, and cleaned all the pews, sanctuary, vestibule and Family Room. Joan Miller, Hank Rettger, Tim Patton and sons Jonathan and Daniel, Kaethe McGonigle and Mike Boyle are the heroes of the day! A BIG THANK YOU to them!

FIRST COMMUNION: Please keep in your prayers, the students who will make their First Communion at a special 2:00pm Mass on Sunday April 30th.

A WARM WELCOME to new parishioners Palmyra Jean Bilotto; and M/M Anthony & Amanda Erlandson. We are glad to have you join our worshipping community.

Once again this year, our local Council #3530, Pittsburgh/East End, led the way even among councils much larger in membership, with a donation of $12,851.50 !!
