St. Matha July 29th in the household of Bethany the Lord Jesus experienced the family spirit and

friendship of Martha, Mary and Lazarus, and for this reason the Gospel of John states that he loved them. Martha generously offered him hospitality, Mary lis-tened attentively to his words and Lazarus promptly emerged from the tomb at the command of the One who humiliated death. She was born of noble and wealthy parents, but she is still more illustrious for the hospitality she gave to Christ our Lord. After His Ascension into heaven, she was seized by the Jews, together with her brother and sister, Marcella her handmaid, and Maximin, one of the seventy two disciples of our Lord, who had baptized the whole family, and many other Christians. They were put on board a ship without sails or oars, and left helpless on the open sea, exposed to certain shipwreck. But God guided the ship, and they all arrived safely at Marseilles. There she lived for thirty years, separated from all human intercourse; and every day she was carried to heaven by the angels to hear their songs of praise. But Martha, after having won the love and admiration of the people of Marseilles by the sanctity of her life and her wonderful charity, withdrew in the company of several virtuous women to a spot remote from men, where she lived for a long time, greatly renowned for her piety and prudence. She foretold her death long before it occurred; and at length, famous for miracles, she passed to our Lord on the fourth of the Kalends of August. Her body which lies at Tarascon is held in great veneration.

HE GOAL OF CATECHESIS: Faith Growth

CATECHESIS is an esteemed term in Christian tradition.

It’s purpose is to make a person’s faith become living, conscious,

and active, through the light of instruction.

FAITH grows and matures. Such faith is a GRACE.,

a Gift of GOD.

Growth in faith is intimately related to one’s response to this gift.

¡No, no!

An-

“ July 24-25, 2021 a group from the Holy Land (Bethlehem & Jerusalem) will be selling religious articles after masses to support the Catholic Christian minorities in Bethlehem. As a tradition, many of the Catholic families in the Holy Land work in small workshops to produce religious articles from olive wood. These articles represent the Christian art of the Holy Land. In the past, they used to sell their artwork to pilgrims who visit the Holy Land. However, these days they are facing an economic hardship, as there are no tourists at all can visit the Holy Land due to pandemic. Many of the Catholic families immigrated and left the Holy Land. The percentage of Christians in the Holy Land has dropped from 20% to less than 1%. Therefore, if this hardship con-tinues as it is now, we believe that in a few years, there will be no Catholics in Bethlehem or Jerusalem. The struggle to preserve the Catholic identity of the birthplace of our savior; Jesus Christ is a serious concern for Catholics around the world. Sales will be used to help and support the Catholics in the Holy Land and to encourage them not to immigrate.”
