Mass & Holy Hour
On the Feast of the
Victory of the Cross
Wednesday, September 14, 2016
7:00pm Mass
On September 14, the Feast Day of the Victory of the
Cross and the eve of Mary Mother of Sorrows, the
7:00pm Mass, followed by a Holy Hour, will be
celebrated for:
All who have lost a child ~
miscarriage, accident, substance abuse, suicide,
abortion, illness
Fr. Ryan, during this Year of Mercy, will ask the “Father
of Mercies” for an outpouring of mercy upon all who
suffer this loss.
Join us in worship for yourself and those you care about.
On this Sunday, September 11, at 9:00am, we are hosting a “Blue Mass” on the fifteenth anniversary of the terror attack on our nation. The Parma Fire Depart-
ment will post colors before Mass begins. Active and retired police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel are our guests. Fifteen years ago, we were dramatically reminded of how much we owe to the First Responders who faithfully serve us in so many ways. Today we particularly remember those who have given their lives in the service of their communities.
May the souls of those faithful departed, Through the mercy of God,
Rest in peace! Amen! The concrete walkways next to our church on Wilber Avenue needed a lot of help. Several of the panels were cracked and there was significant settling that caused unsafe conditions. Before the snow flies, we knew we had to act. The old cracked and sunken concrete was removed and a six-foot wide sidewalk now replaces it. We did not replace the concrete surface next to the curb; that will be planted with grass and also some trees. Our Finance Council considered the situation and determined that--since Carnival 2016 did so well--we will be able to pay for the concrete work out of our just-past Carnival 2016 profit. However, if you would like to donate a tree to be planted along Wilber Avenue in your family’s name, or as a memorial, give me a call at 440-884-3030. Enclosed with this bulletin please find the annual “State of the Parish” report for July 1 2015 to June 30 2016. Parents of second graders and eighth graders--that is parents of children receiving Reconciliation, First Communion, or Confirmation this year--are reminded of our Parents Meeting this Monday, September 12, at 7:00pm. That Meeting will be held in Corrigan Gym. Our parochial vicar, and talented artist-in-residence, Father Terry, along with Brian Pelcin and yours truly will offer a two-part series on the artwork, architecture, and symbolism of our church. That will happen on Monday, September 19 and 26 at 7:30pm, (immediately following 7:00pm Mass) in church. Should be fun, so see you there! The “parish year” really begins in September. New leadership steps forward for our many groups and ministries, veteran organizations resume their schedules, and new offerings are made available. I call your attention to the detailed articles in this bulletin inviting you to share in a wide variety of opportunities: Father Ryan’s new “POST CANA: Living the I Do’s,” Brian Pelcin’s series on the Parables of Jesus, Sister Denise’s SWIFT and her Catholic Men’s and Women’s Connection, and the next series of “Theology on Tap.” Our Big Idea is “something for everybody.” I think you will find a good smattering of very worthwhile offerings. Our St Charles seminarians returned to classes in the last few days. Jason Keller begins his sophomore year and Ian Kelly enters senior year at John Carroll/Borromeo. Jim Cosgrove starts his fifth year of theology with diaconate ordination scheduled for October and priesthood in May. Jim is assigned to Holy Family Parish in Stow. Jim’s classmate, Peter Bang, now begins his deacon assignment with us, also anticipating ordination this year.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY
OF THE WORD During the 10:30 mass in the Parish Hall, children ages pre-school through second grade are invited to participate in an age appropriate Liturgy of the Word. This program is now in its 18th year. We are always looking for more teachers, so if you are interested, please call the PCRF office at 440-886-5668. CLW will return on Sunday, September 18.

GUIDE BOOK & DIRECTORY
ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for the church. This book will contain everything pertinent to our church: the various ministries, organizations, committees, activities, functions and events plus a complete directory of all members. This book is being provided and direct-mailed to each family at no cost to our church, and it is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Parish Office.
Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It “will pay” to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory.
If you do not want your telephone number listed in the Directory, now is the time to call the Parish Office (440)884-3030 and let us know. Please note that any changes requested are included in this upcoming edition only.
