Professional Organisations News

The Institute of Management Specialists In 2011 the Institute of Management Specialists reviewed its purpose as a professional body. It decided that its prime purpose was not just to recognise the professional development of management specialists but to encourage them, particularly those who are members of the Institute to upgrade their education and knowledge both in general management and the field they specialise in. This is being done by encouraging members to participate in Continuing Professional Development. It has set up a range of points for various CPD activities (short courses, in house development programs, and seminar workshops). Organisations can approach the IMS to get their programs rated for CPD points making it easier for the IMS participants to claim CPD points for those programs.

IPFM and AMS Join the FCPAI The Institute of Professional Financial Managers (IPFM) and the Academy of Multi-Skills (AMS) have joined the Federation of Certified Professional Associations and Institutes www.certifiedprofessionalinstitutes.com

The Academy of Multi-Skills The Academy of Multi-Skills is now listed on the UK Register of Learning Providers.

Start an Alumni Chapter One of the co-sponsors for ‘Anchor’ is the St Clements University Alumni Society. It is the umbrella body for all Alumni groups and represents St Clements University Group graduates. The Initial body forming the Society was the Alumni Chapter for Nigerian graduates. ‘Anchor’ is designed to keep Alumni members up to date with what is happening in the St Clements University Group. Where Alumni have the opportunity to meet together to discuss various topics the management of St Clements University Group would encourage Alumni to form Chapters and meet monthly, quarterly or annually to keep in contact with each other. If you wish to form an Alumni Chapter in your area contact the President Dr. David Le Cornu via email [email protected]. He will advertise events in ‘Anchor” to encourage Alumni in your area join a Chapter. A number of St Clements University graduates have indicated their interest in receiving a second degree for the work they have completed for their St Clements University degree. St Clements University (has archived the assessment papers for all graduates) can make available the assessment records to other educational institutions, who wish to reassess the work completed, for the issuing of a second degree based on this work. University Consortium has a number of UNESCO listed Universities, which will evaluated the work completed for your St Clements University degree and issue a degree based on it. These can be at Bachelor, Master and Doctorate level depending on the level of your St Clements University degree. For more details please write to Dr John Tan, Director of International Affairs at [email protected]

Open Letter to St Clements University Group Alumni Dr. Mohamed A. Eno

Dean of St Clements University Somalia Dear Alumni, I would like to take this opportunity to share my view regarding PD in our areas of specialisation or professional functions. The fast pace of the global trends, though said to offer opportunities, also pose challenges in their multitude. One of the most successful ways which our alumni can face some of these challenges is by participation in seminars, workshops and professional conferences that contribute to the PD (Professional Development) of the individual. This is to emphasise that, despite the academic merits and well achieved credentials; it is indispensable for particularly our new graduates, professionals and up-coming scholars to join their respective relevant professional associations so as to keep abreast of the new developments in their professions. Although some of these activities may require some costs in subscription and/or participation fees etc, what we gain by professional (face-to-face) interaction with area experts and other experts is much more valuable than the expenses we may incur towards achieving the noble goal of being up to date in our chosen areas of specialisation. Such interactions have the potential of not only updating us on new trends in our profession but may as well provide us with professional solutions to some of the problems we may be encountering in our day to day activities. However, we should be careful when we choose which professional associations we would want to join; whereas some institutions have reputable standing, others may not be as active and focused. This will take you a little bit of research on the profile of the organisation in order to be sure that its activities and culture represent your desire. In respect of those benefits, and according to the experience I have gained in terms of Professional Development and association with professional bodies, I kindly recommend to our alumni to consider this matter seriously and join their respective professional organisations in order to have a presence as well as recognition in what they do and who they are in their professional life, in the face of a constantly transforming world society.
