PASTOR’S CORNER Today we begin a series of three Gospels from the Gospel of John which from ancient times the Church has used to accompany catechumens in this their inal stage of spiritual preparation for baptism at Easter. These Gospels which we hear on the third, fourth and ifth Sundays of Lent are the Samaritan woman, the man born blind and the raising of Lazarus. They are stories of conversion, of coming to ind the Lord who is living water, light and life. Today it is the Samaritan woman whose encounter with Jesus moves her from thirst to living water, from isolation to community and from shame to testimony. There is a telling detail in the story when the woman leaves her bucket at the well and rushes of to the town to witness to what has happened. She came to the well thirsty for water but, having met Jesus, no longer needs a bucket since she has found the source of living water to satisfy the thirst of the soul. In these weeks we pray specially for those preparing to join our Church. We will pray together over them that they might be liberated from the spirits of the world to be more open to the Spirit of God. They, in turn, call all of us to renewed conversion and growth so that we might more fully live our own baptism. __________________________________________________________________________________ Weareinneedofmorehelpatallourmasses.Weneedmorelectors,eucharisticministersandushersespecially.Ifyoufeelcalledtoanyoftheseministriespleaseputyournameandemail/phonenumberonthesigninsheetsatbackoftheChurchandwewillfollowupwithyoutodiscernhowbestyoucanmeettheneeds.Youcannotealsoifyouhaveapreferredmassatwhichtohelp.ItrequiresalotofpeopleworkingtogethertomakeourLiturgiesworkinanorderlyfashion.Wethankallwhoarealreadyserving,somefaithfullyformanyyears.Thankyouforyourconsiderationofthisrequest. FROMTHEARCHDIOCESEOFLOSANGELESThis lu season and to aid in limiting the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), all are reminded to use good hygiene and the usual common-sense practices used during the cold and lu season. If you are feeling ill, you are not obliged to attend Mass and should stay home. For those who are not able to attend due to illness, Sunday Mass is livestreamed in English and Spanish from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels via Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/lacatholics/, @lacatholics. The following accommodations have been recommended by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles until such time as the coronavirus is no longer a threat: that the faithful receive Holy Communion on the hand and not on the tongue; the use of the cup be suspended; and all are asked to refrain from offering your hand to others at the sign of peace or during the recitation of the Lord’s prayer. A smile and a heartfelt, “Peace be with you,” can serve as the sign of peace. During the recitation of the Lord’s prayer, you are invited to assume the orans position. That is the raising of the hands and eyes toward heaven as a gesture acknowledging our sole reliance on God. Please remember that refraining from participation in the liturgy or the sign of peace is out of care for our wellbeing and not out of unkindness or a lack of piety. Please continue to pray for all who are ill and those who are providing care for them.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN DID YOU KNOW? BeawareofpoisondangersinthehomeMore than 90% of all poisonings happen in homes. Parents should know the top risks for children (especially children who still put things in their mouths!) and work to eradicate them. Lead poisoning is high on the list, especially for older homes with lead paint or dust. Button batteries are small and shiny and lurk in many toys and electronics that litter our homes. Swallowing these can be deadly for children. The same is true of household cleaners like laundry or dishwasher detergent pods. For more information, visit https://lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
