St. Benedict Parish The Epiphany of the Lord, January 7th, 2018

Dear Friends,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! While the commercialized side of Christmas rushes the season, filling store shelves starting at Halloween, and changing radio program to all Christmas music before the Thanksgiving turkey is in the oven, at 12 mid-night, the Christmas music abruptly stops. I understand that the change in music has to stop at some point, but it’s important that we recognize that we have our own timing as Catholics.

In the liturgical calendar Advent precedes Christmas and December 24th is just the start of our Christmas Season. And while the celebration of the Christmas season ends at the baptism of the Lord, the real gift of Christmas, Jesus - God coming to us as one of us, underlies all that we believe.

With the noise and confusion of the com-mercialized version of Christmas silenced, let’s meditate on the true meaning of this glorious season and how we can share God’s love with others.

Let’s continue to pray for one another, Marti Lunderg

The Work of Christmas

When the song of the angels is stilled- when the star in the sky is gone-

When the kings and princes

have returned home-

When the shepherds are back with their flocks-

Then

the work of Christmas begins:

to find the lost- to heal the broken- to feed the hungry-

to release the prisoner- to rebuild the nations-

to bring peace among people- to make music in the heart.
