October 22, 2017 2 Twenty-Ninth Sunday In Ordinary Time

All Souls’ Remembrance Mass Thursday, November 02, at 6:00 p.m.

To honor members of our parish family and other close relatives who have died since All Souls’ Day 2016, we will celebrate a special Mass of

Remembrance. The church takes this day to remember all those who have died and “gone before us marked with the sign of faith.” In faith, we believe that we remain united with our loved ones because the Kingdom

of God is not bound by death. The Book of Remembrance will be displayed in the Narthex, and we invite those, who’s loved one has died in the past year to write THE NAME OF THE DECEASED in this book. All are encouraged to bring a picture

of a deceased relative or friend, no larger than 8X10, for display in front of the Altar. We invite one representative from each family to participate in an opening procession by carrying a lit candle purchased for $5.00 at the parish office Mon-Thurs or from ushers before 6pm Mass on All Souls’ Day. Candles will remain burning throughout the Mass. After the Mass, all are invited for a small gathering at the Parish Center. Please bring a

dish to share. For additional information, contact Kathy Cho at (909) 797-2533 ext. 225

POWER STRUGGLE Power struggles occur on every level of society, from the world stage to relationships at work, to our own homes. We struggle for position in the hierarchy of power: Who has power over whom? How do they wield it? What is the source of that power? What is the healthy response?

In this Sunday’s Gospel reading the Pharisees engage Jesus in a power struggle over whether Jews should show

tribute to Caesar by paying taxes. Jesus’ response puts this and every struggle for power into perspective. In harmony with the

words of Isaiah and Paul, Jesus teaches us that God is the ultimate source of all power—the power of earthly rulers, the Pharisees, Jesus, the Church, and the power within ourselves.

Questions of the Week

Question for Children: In your young life, who has helped you know Jesus as a friend? Question for Youth: We are supposed to give to God the things that are God’s. What in your life is dedicated to God? How to you keep those things sacred? Question for Adults: If you were to write a thank you note to someone or to a group who has helped you grow in faith, to whom would you write and what would you say?

Twenty-Ninth Sunday In Ordinary Time

Stephen Ministry The Beatitudes can be found in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 5. Jesus gave us the Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount.

"Beatitude" is a blessing. A fun pun found online - "Be attitude," an attitude for Jesus. The Beatitudes... Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of God Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. Need help with spiritual care? Perhaps you know someone who does. Call Stephen Ministry, it's a good starting place for your, "Be-attitude" for Jesus. All calls are completely confidential.
