ASSISI FOR AFRICA Thanks to all parishioners who have prayed throughout Lent for the boys in the Con-go, and thanks to all who so generously donated a total of ($12,406.53) for our Lenten mission project! Farm news from Fr. Damien: “we have welded 5 double beds for the first 10 kids who will go. However, the rains are beginning to end so that means that we will have to cultivate next to the rivers. This has always produced excellent vegetables that have fed us and allowed us to sell in the local mar-ket. One complication is that of transportation for the farm is 15 kilometers from where we live. It will take months to clear the road and the farm from all the weeds and plants. It has been abandoned for years … Is there any farm expert in your parish who can come and help us get the farm going? 84 acres with large pasture land.” Let us pray for this farming effort and the seven boys to be bap-tized today!

The Year of Grace We see proclaimed this Easter night (or, at least, hear it proclaimed Easter Day) the elect going into the font for baptismal washing and baptismal dying (our two main images for Baptism). Washing away the old, dying to past life. Then, coming out brand new. And seeing/hearing this, we are renewed. Again. This year. Renewed again to be on baptismal mission. Re-newed again to be missionary disciples. What renewal do I need? How will the newly professed, icons of God’s grace,

help me be renewed? How will I help the newly professed become faithful

with me, with us?

Both the staff and the Franciscans of St. Francis Parish wish you and your loved ones the graces of this holy season of Easter! Please take time to relax and enjoy God’s blessings as we experience longer days and warmer weather. We hon-estly can’t complain about cold weather and snow this year!

The parishioners are grateful to everyone who has helped us worship our God as we remember and celebrate our Lord’s passion, death and resurrection. The number of people to thank and acknowledge is many, and I don’t want to men-tion names because I’ll forget or overlook some. We thank the Art and Environment people for decorating our beautiful church, and we’re grateful to the choir for raising our souls and spirits in prayer, and so many others like: readers, Extraor-dinary Ministers of the Eucharist, servers or acolytes, sacristans, ushers, it’s a cast of hundreds!

At our Easter Vigil we welcome to the Church Elizabeth Tegeler, Nick Moeller and Thomas McConnell. Please see the enclosed insert for some biographical information.

For people attending Mass during the week, there will be some inconvenience starting Monday, 17 April, if the weather cooperates. We will be limited to only the east and the west entrances for coming and going to Mass. The front entrance of the church is going to have work done on it. We certainly hope that the front entrance will be ready for Masses the weekend of 22-23 April. If it isn’t, then we can all use the east and west entrances for Mass.

CATECHISTS AND MASS WALKERS THE TEUTOPOLIS KC’s Catechist Appreciation night is set for Tuesday, April 25, at 6:45 pm! Thank you for spreading the faith each week!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Earth Day Since 1970 we have celebrated Earth Day on April 22. Today, more than ever, the earth cries out to us, its caretakers, to help it re-new. Some facts we may not know:

19.4 billion pounds of plastic gets dumped into the oceans per year.

18 million acres of forest are lost each year to deforestation.

By 2030 there will be a water shortage of 40%. 2015 was the warmest year since records have been

kept and already 2017 is set to break that record. 20% more people will face famine because of extreme

climate change by 2050.
