Today’s Readings First Reading — To meet their growing needs, the community chooses seven reputable men to serve the new Greek believers (Acts 6:1-7). Psalm — Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you (Psalm 33). Second Reading — We, like living stones, let ourselves be built into a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:4-9). Gospel — “Show us the Father,” Philip asks Jesus. To which Je-sus replies: “Whoever sees me, sees the Father” (John 14:1-12). Fellow St Xavier Parishioners

During this pandemic, please continue your wonderful support of St Francis Xavier Parish. Even though the school and offices are closed and we can no longer hold Masses, Parish expenses do continue. The Parish expenses are supported by your charitable contributions and weekly tithing.

Several options are available to assist you. You can use the mail slot on the Parish Office door to drop in person. You can mail it to the Par-ish Office. You can use our website at www.saintxparish.org to give online. And we are most excited to announce we now have a Virtual Offertory option available too for those that would prefer not to enroll and use an account and password to make a donation. Simply go to www.saintxparish.org and scroll down to the “virtual offertory” button and it will take you directly to our Sunday Offering donation page.

Most recently, the ‘Together iGiveCatholic’ website has been opened during this unprecedented time calling all to support the Catholic church and its many ministries. You can access that site at together.iGiveCatholic.org, then select Diocese of Salina, and then search for Saint Xavier Parish in Junction City. This will bring you to our website to make your actual donation. Your support to keep our Parish operating is much needed and greatly appreciated.

Know that the Lord is with us in this time of need. Continue to pray. May the Lord bless you and keep you!

ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH Guidelines for Public Masses and Other Services

{Holy Mass resumes on May 19. Please see the Mass Time changes) 1. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation remains in force until further notice. If your health is compromised by advanced age, underlying medical conditions, problems with your immune system, etc., you should continue to stay home. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19 (cough, fever, chills, loss of sense of taste or smell, etc.), out of consideration for the health and well-

being of others, you should not come to church. We will continue to live-stream one of our weekend Masses for those who stay home.

2. Social distancing of 6 feet between individuals must be maintained. This includes: Entering and leaving the church With seating (families, of course, may sit together in one pew) While in line to receive Holy Communion

3. Churches will be limited to 1/3 of their capacity for Masses. Only 100 people can be accommodated at a time in Church. Please be understanding of this limi-tation.

4. Please enter the Church only through the main door and follow the usher’s instructions for your seating. Church side doors will be locked. 5. Surfaces that are touched by people during Mass will be disinfected and cleaned after and/or between Masses with the help of volunteers. Please do not

clean the pews with your personal cleaning supplies, it might damage wooden pews. Volunteers will take care of the cleaning/disinfecting the pews since they have proper directions.

6. Holy water fonts will continue to stay empty. 7. Diligent care will be given about making sure that there are sufficient paper towels, hand soaps, etc., in the men’s and ladies rooms. Hand sanitizers will be

made available at entrances of the church. 8. Holy Mass: The sign of peace at Mass will be suspended until further notice. The Precious Blood will not be offered to the faithful during Holy Communion. For the offertory, collection baskets will be placed at the entrances of the church and the faithful may drop off their donations before or after Mass. There will not be an offertory procession. The ushers will take the collection directly to the sacristy after the collection through the back door (there should

always be 2 people with the collection) The bread and wine necessary for Mass will be placed on the credence table. A purificator will be wrapped over the hosts and cup during the offertory/Eucharistic Prayer. Holy Communion is to be received only in the hand until further notice. There will only be one line for Communion and six feet space must always be maintained while in line. The priest might wear a cloth mask over his mouth while distributing Communion. Everyone is encouraged to wear a cloth mask throughout Mass. Missalettes, Music issues and Prayer cards will be removed from the pews. We are trying digital means to project the Readings, Prayers, Hymns during Mass. Masses will be shorter (short homily & music adjustments) After Mass, please remain in your seat until ushers dismiss you safely.

9. Communion to the homebound is still suspended until further notice. Homebound folks tend to be elderly and have health issues. We cannot risk infecting them.

10. Weddings, Baptisms, and funeral Masses will be celebrated as long as social distancing requirements are met. 11. Gatherings and events such as Bible Studies, Adult Education, etc., remain suspended until further notice. 12. Eucharistic Adoration will continue as usual. Please maintain social distancing. Please do not clean the pews with your personal supplies. 13. Confessions schedules remain the same (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday)

The real difficulty is going to be enforcing the social distancing requirement. It will be hard to tell people trying to attend Mass that they cannot come into the church because it is already 1/3 full. The solution we are going to try is that we are going to encourage everyone to look thoughtfully and prayerfully at their schedules and see what day of the week works best for them to come to Mass. Sunday Mass is not mandatory at this time so a weekday Mass has the same value as Sunday.

MASS TIMING (Tentative) Weekdays: Weekends: Tuesday - 5:30 pm Saturday: 5:15 pm Wednesday - 5:30 pm Sunday: 9:00 am & 11:00 am Thursday - 8:00 am Friday – 8:00 am (Please remember that the obligation to attend Sunday Mass has been lifted for the foreseeable future. If possible, try to attend a weekday Mass to keep the numbers coming to Saturday/Sunday Mass manageable. If you are unable to attend Mass, please avail yourself to live-stream Mass from our parish or any of the live-stream Masses that are being made available by various parishes throughout the Diocese, the Mass on EWTN, etc.). These guidelines are not perfect. We are all in the middle of an experience that is new and disruptive to all our lives. By mutual cooperation and the grace of Almighty God, we will get through this. Let us continue to hold one another up in prayer. Thank you for your cooperation and support. God bless you!! Fr. Gnanasekar Kulandai

Parish Registration If you have just moved into the area or perhaps a Sunday regular, we invite you to reg-ister as a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish. In registering, our parish community can better serve you and your family’s needs. With our many different ministries, St. Xavier’s has many opportunities to enrich your life and spirit.

By registering in a parish, you are declaring your desire to be part of a Catholic faith community. Your registration also affects a parish in many ways. Census numbers may determine how many priests are assigned to a parish, what benefits and obligations the community has to the diocese, and how many Masses and programs are planned and scheduled.

We are so glad that you are here! Visit our website at saintxparish.org to register as a member of Saint Xavier Parish. You can also register by calling the Parish Office at 785-238-2998. Those that are already registered parishioners, please take a moment to update your existing registration so that we can better serve you.

Nominating Committee The Pastoral Council has 3 members who will be ending their current terms on June 25th. Two of the positions to be filled will be for a 3 year term. The third position will be for a 1 year term. When each of the new members first term concludes, they will have the option to serve for 3 more years before new members will be elected. If you are interested or would like to nominate someone, contact the Parish Office on or before June 1. Those interested will then be asked to complete a short information sheet.

Motherhood Mothers are a gift from God. God knew what He was doing when He created women with the ability to nurture life.

Mother’s Day honors all our mothers and their enormous sacrifices. Mother’s Day en-compasses more than just the honoring of those who have borne children. It is the celebration of motherhood—the divine nature of women. May we all feel a deeper ap-preciation for the great blessing of motherhood, not just when we celebrate Mothers Day, but everyday!

Our culture of death undermines both motherhood and the God-given gift and blessing of children. May we also help the next generation reclaim and respect this incredible gift of MOTHERHOOD!
