The countdown to Move Day (services relocation into the new Acute Services Building) has well and truly started with construction progressing rapidly since works began in January this year.

The final major concrete pour of the structure has taken place with the new rooftop helipad now connected to its walkway and the rooftop lift services.

As you can see in the latest aerial photography taken this month, the building is fully defined and you can really appreciate what an enormous investment the new Acute Services Building (ASB) is in the future of our hospital.

The plant room services located on level 8 such as the chillers, cooling towers, boilers, fire sprinkler tanks and Air Handling Units (AHUs) will soon be protected by a steel roof to be installed before Christmas.

The other noticeable external changes concern the building’s façade with the west face of levels 6 and 7 being fitted with the first cladding panels.

While it’s hard not to notice the progression of the exterior of the new building, inside there is also a hive of activity with various stages of completion for each level.

Internal fit out of the new ASB continues throughout with the lower levels further advanced than the higher levels.

Levels 1, 2 and 3 are substantially progressed with preparations now underway to install the vinyl flooring, painting, joinery and finishes to the ceilings.

The level 3 plant rooms which will provide services to the new eight operating theatres located on the level below are almost complete.

Just like Charlie in Roald Dahl's 1964 children's

novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you can win a Golden Ticket to inspect the new Acute Services Building (ASB) under construction.

Starting from next month, all St George Hospital staff are eligible to put their name in the draw to win a one hour site tour of the ASB construction site to see what is going on behind the scenes.

Site tours will be held on the third Thursday of each month, starting at 11am.

Not only will you get up close to the new building, you will also be taken inside to see what is going on behind the scenes.

Only three tickets will be available each month so why not enter the “Golden Ticket” competition to get a firsthand experience of our new ASB in the making and a special St George Redevelopment hard hat to keep as a momento.

To enter, simply fill out the entry form below and place it in the Golden

Ticket competition box located in the hospital’s old cafeteria dining area. Competition forms will also be available. There is no need to re-enter each month as all unsuccessful entries will go in the draw for the following month.

Golden Ticket winners will be supplied with a hard hat and visibility safety vest and will need to wear low healed enclosed shoes.

Goodluck everyone!

St George Hospital’s Birthing Centre is already enjoying the benefits of the Redevelopment refurbishments which have taken place over the past six months. A progressive staged refurbishment of facilities within the department has delivered a new staff room, NUMs office, store room, five person office, two patient examination rooms, a new patient waiting room and staff beverage bay. Pictured from left: Rachel Smith, Registered Midwife examines patient Flavia Amorim and talks to patient Abbey Cambridge with her young son about the arrival of his new brother or sister.

Refurbishment Update

In addition to the new ASB, the $277 million hospital redevelopment includes a significant number of refurbishment projects. Works at present include:

Gray Street Main Entry & Façade A temporary main entry continues to operate to enable works on the new main entry and façade. Temporary fencing remains in place in the main entry area and driveway with major programmed works taking place where possible on the weekends.

Hospital kitchen The kitchen is being refurbished and expanded with the first stage of works expected to be completed in January, 2017. This stage includes new cool rooms, freezer rooms and a covered walkway connecting the new stores area to the loading dock. The next stage of works will then commence in which the existing kitchen will be refurbished and upgraded.

Gray Street car park expansion In order to expand the car park with an additional two levels of parking, the car park foundations are currently being strengthened. We will keep you updated as these works are completed and the next stage of the project is due to commence.
