THE WEST WIND

Recently I became aware of an alternative to YouTube.

When it comes to technology and social media I am usually one

of the last to participate. So it is with GodTube. GodTube is a

Christian version of YouTube. I have found this site to be a

blessing. This week an email arrived which touted Reba

McEntire singing “Pray for Peace.” Certainly the timing of this

video/song is opportunistic. And yet the simplicity of the

message is so powerful. The chorus is constantly repeating

itself in my mind. Pray for peace. Pretty simple, isn’t it? Pray for peace.

Two Bible verses instantly come to mind when I hear, “Pray

for Peace.” John 14:27 (New American Standard Bible) states,

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.

Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” We have the peace of Christ! We

already possess it! And then Jesus said to not be afraid. Really? In the world we live in?

Let us look at the context in which Jesus said these words. He was speaking to the

Apostles on the night He was arrested. Just hours before He was crucified. And He told

the Apostles to not be troubled or afraid. Wow! And He gave them His peace.

And then we read in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all

comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The Apostle Paul

wrote these words. The same Apostle Paul who had been imprisoned, beaten, tortured,

and exiled all for the crime of preaching the good news of Jesus Christ. Paul says that the

peace of God will protect us. Not our peace, but the peace of God. Our peace in a

troubled world is not because of who we are, but because of who He is. My peace is

insufficient, but His peace is fully capable of protecting my heart and mind.

Reba McEntire sings “Pray for Peace.” Amen sister. Sing it. And yes we need to pray

for peace. But never forget that Jesus Christ has already given us His peace.
