POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER TO MARY DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at

the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will Provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we

may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will

of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried

our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS CATHOLIC CLUSTER / DIOCESAN CORNER

My dear Parishioners,

When I say my daily Mass and get to the prayers for the living, I think of you and the many challenges that you must endure during these difficult times. The cross that you and the people around the world are given to carry during this pandemic is a heavy one. Fr. Alex and I continue to pray that you find support through God’s Grace and the support of one another. May we all find certainty in our uncertain lives through the strength of our Faith.

As you may have heard, the Maine CDC and the Bishop, have given us permission to hold public Masses in a very LIMITED AND RESTRICTIVE way beginning in June. We will be limited to 50 people or less and the restrictions will include the requirement to wear a mask throughout the Mass except for communion and the requirement to socially distance while in the church. You will also not be allowed to socialize before or after Mass. As happy as I am to have a live congregation in church, I am also aware of the struggle it will be to organize this in a fair and manageable fashion, and to meet all the guidelines and requirements given to us to follow. Our parish staff has been meeting to consider various ways to achieve this and we are willing to do our best so as many of you as possible have the opportunity to enter their beloved churches and to receive the Holy Eucharist.

We will offer you more detailed information as needed, but for now, let me share with you the most basic information.

1. For the present, Bishop Deeley continues to dispense all the faithful from the obligation to take part in Mass on Sundays and holy Days of Obligation.

2. Fr. Alex and I will continue to offer pre-recorded Masses. So, if you are ill, at high risk for the virus, or simply do not feel safe to be in public gatherings at this time, you should stay home and continue to view the pre-recorded Masses. If you are uncomfortable with having to wear a mask throughout the Mass, then you also should not come to a live Mass. The same is true if you do not care to socially distance yourself before, during, and after Mass.

3. If you are interested in attending a live Mass of your choice, please fill out the form on the opposite page to be invited to that Mass. You must send the information to us by phone, mail, or email. First registered, first scheduled. PLEASE do not return the form until you are ready to attend Mass.

4. Each weekend, Fr. Alex, and I, will be doing one pre-recorded Mass and three live Masses each. With only 50 people or less allowed, that means that you MIGHT only get one opportunity to attend a live Mass before the next round of protocols come out. As I mentioned earlier, this is a limited and restrictive opening.

5. Once we receive your registration and have an opening at your preferred Mass time and place, WE WILL CONTACT YOU to let you know when you can attend a live Mass.

6. St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Bruno churches normally have two masses a weekend. During this period of limited access, they will only have one Mass a weekend. This is to avoid the high cost of sanitizing the entire church after each Mass. This way we can close the churches for at least 4 days to be sure the churches are safe from the virus. Highly used doorknobs, bathrooms, and other commonly touched surfaces will be sanitized after each Mass.

7. Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or email.

Some of you will be happy at the opportunity to attend a live Mass even with the restrictions. Some of you might be disappointed and perhaps even angry with the limited opportunities and restrictions. I am so sorry and sympathetic! I ask for your patience and understanding. We will be as fair and thorough as we can under the circumstances. PLEASE HELP US by following the instructions above so we do not have to turn people away. Having to turn people away would be the most unpleasant thing for me and my staff to do. Let us pray that come July, we will be able to open our churches to more people and with less restrictions.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Fr. Plourde
