Pastor’s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The parish reception phase of our “We Are Living Stones” Capital Campaign has concluded. Last week, we presented the Archdiocesan video. Now is the time for prayerful reflection on the part of each parishioner who has not attended a reception or made a pledge to seriously consider what special sacrifice he or she can make over the next four years to support the initiatives of both the parish and the archdiocese, which the insert in today’s bulletin highlights, along with the pledge total to date from a mere handful of families, and the suggested payment plans. We will do a formal Pledge Sunday right after Easter. I would like every parishioner to make a pledge of whatever their means allow, recognizing that this will be sacrificial, and that each of us has a part to play in the well-being of our parish and our archdiocese. We can easily reach and surpass our goal if everyone gives something truly sacrificial!

Holy Week begins today with Palm Sunday. A complete Holy Week schedule is inserted in today’s bulletin, along with the listing on page 2. Please join us for as many of the services as you are able, and invite family, friends, and neighbors to come with you for this most Solemn Season.

Msgr. Richard Arnhols, Pastor

Reflection on Today’s Readings

An entire alabaster jar of expensive perfumed oil broken and poured upon the head of an obscure rabbi must have seemed an incredible waste when it could have been sold and the money spent for some practical purpose. Likewise, it must have seeemd a waste for Jesus to arrive in Jerusalem to the cries of the crowds, ready to accept him as their king, and for him to squander his political capital by claiming to be more than a king, by claiming that God is his Abba, his Father. And once he is publicly tormented in a shameful death, it all must have seemed even more like a sad, tragic waste. Yet it all follows the logic of the Christian faith: “Though he was in the form of God, [Jesus] did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, pouring himself out” like the perfumed oil from the woman’s alabaster jar. Perhaps this too seems like a foolish waste, but the foolishness of God is wiser than worldly wisdom. Because he willingly poured out his life for love of God and for love of us, “God greatly exalted him” raising him up so that the lives of all those who have poured themselves out in the cause of love, like precious ointment from an alabaster jar, might rise also with him, their lives not wasted but truly found, truly saved. “Lord Jesus, teach us to give and not to count the cost, so that we might be your disciples and show your love to the world!”

Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure!

“Pilate again said to them, ‘Then what shall I do with the man whom you call the King of the Jews?’ And they cried out again, ‘Crucify him.’” - Mark 15: 12-13

Jesus told us “whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.” Every day we are presented opportunities to help someone. Every day we have the opportunity to see the face of Jesus in others and be the face of Jesus to others. Pray for the courage to stand up for those in need of our help.
