the 100th anniversary withenough clarity that it is utterlysurprising to be at this newmark of 125. Such is the relent-less nature of time, ever tickingaway while we are unaware. ButGod’s house is a refuge. In thepresence of God our lives liveout their eternal dimension. Inthe eyes of God small thingsmatter and insignificantmoments are savored. Hetreasures all that we are. I lookforward to God’s narratedaccount of the history of ourchurch. He will tell us a verydifferent story than we mightexpect. He will tell us stories, perhaps of a widow who wasalone all week but then laughedout loud when someone at

church took the time to talkwith her. God will tell us storiesof young children having thatfirst light-bulb moment of faithin a Sunday school room. OnlyGod knows the true story of ourchurch’s history because, really,it is the story of so many livestouched, so many pathscrossed, that only God can seethe fabric that is weavedtogether from so many strands. I hope that you willcelebrate this moment with afaith and trust that this churchis a place where you meet Godand your life has been blessed. We have a lot to look forward totogether because our God is sogracious and good.

Grace, mercy and peace to you my brothers and sisters in Christ!

It is with joy that I write you this letter and accept the call that St.John has extended to my family to come and serve you! As we vis-ited with you, we felt the stirring of the Holy Spirit in a way whichmade this decision a very peaceful one!

At the same time, we are leaving loved ones and a family here inIdaho. So, I would ask that you keep us in your prayers – both myfamily and your brothers and sisters in Christ at Faith LutheranChurch in Pocatello, Idaho, as they now will begin a process that youhave just gone through.

We look forward to joining you in the ministry that God has called usto: sharing the Gospel of Christ and enlarging the Kingdom ofGod! I plan to move to Buffalo with one of my sons in mid-November, so we will see you soon!

Youth & Family MinistryCalling all Youth, Kids and Adults!!!

Join in and be a part of our Congregation-wide Mission Project!Operation Christmas Child! -

October 28th– November 11th

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through

gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. Since1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed,

shipped, and delivered across the globe. Here’s how it Works…1. Pick up a shoebox at St. John’s or find one of your own standardsize, please). You can also use a small plastic container. You canwrap the box (lid separately), but wrapping is not required. Mostimportantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift.2. Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl and thechild’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Labels are available atchurch with the shoeboxes. Mark the correct age category on thelabel, and tape the label to the top of your box.3. Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Alist of items is also available to pick up. Here are a few suggestions…TOYS : small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, etc.SCHOOL SUPPLIES: pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons, etc.HYGIENE ITEMS: toothbrush, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), combOTHER: Hard candy (please double bag all candy), T-shirts, sun-

glasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extrabatteries)A PERSONAL NOTE: In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note

If you wish, you may donate $7 to cover the shippingof your box. Write your check to “Samaritan’s Purse” (note “OCC” onmemo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the gift items insideyour box.5. Place a rubber band around each closed shoe box and drop off atchurch no later than November 11th.

Youth & Family MinistryOperation Christmas Child Drop Off SiteOnce again, St. John’s has been asked by Operation Christmas Childto be a shoebox drop-off site for Buffalo and the surroundingcommunities. During the week of November 12th-19th, St. Johns willbe open limited hours for families, other churches, and people ofthe community to bring in their shoebox gifts.

We are looking for volunteers to help at the drop–off siteduring the week. As a volunteer, you are a host of St. John’s bywelcoming those who come through our doors to drop off boxes, keeping a count of boxes collected, and more.
